I've been here for 45 minutes and haven't done jack yet. I don't know if I'll actually get anything done today. I have nothing special planned until the weekend, so why waste a vacation day when I know that no-one will be here and I'll get to coast. I work with customers, and when they aren't in, I have basically 0 workload.

I'm here, figured I'd be one of the few here as everyone else is on vacation. On TD, listening to OTB, relaxing. Why waste a day?

I work on the 4th too.

Because our Canadian business wont pay for a Canadian equivalency to do what we do. So we do it for them.

fricking Canadians.

I'm for a few hours to check on some stuff. I'll probably head out at lunch.

Same here. Last time it fell on a weekend they gave us an option of Friday/Monday, or as a floating holiday we could use any time during the year. 2014 was great since it was on a Friday. 2015 was great because of the floating holiday with it falling on a Saturday. Last year was a Monday. Really just this year and next will stink with it being middle of the week. I can't really take off the first few days of the month due to closeout, especially at a quarter end. So having the 3rd be the first business day means I can't take off anyways.

But I took off several days at Memorial Day and a week off just 2 weeks ago, so no big deal. I just don't have to come in tomorrow and we're hanging out at a pool during the day then going to a friend's house for a cookout that night.

I'm at work. I guess I don't have to be, but why not? It's quiet, the roads are nearly empty, and I can just get stuff done.

I don't blame people who do vacation over the 4th, but at the same time, I certainly don't mind staying in town. Traveling during the peak of summer blows.

I work at at Tech company in Austin. Unlimited PTO is pretty common around here. I actually find that I take off less generally than when I had set number of days at my last job. There is no more "I need to use 6 more days before the end of the year or I lose them!". If I need off, I just throw it in our shared calendar.

It's a smart move on the company's part tbh. People take less time off, and if there is someone taking too much time off and their work suffers, it's on them.
