According the 2020 census Dothan is still growing population wise

The east end of 30A (Mexico beach, port st Joe, Apalachicola) is a much more superior vacation spot than the west end (Seaside, Rosemary, etc)
The population density at any given time in that area is like fricking NYC. Nowhere to Park, crowded as hell everywhere, expensive as hell everywhere. It was nice in the 90s, it’s just a more pretentious destin now.
The east end is what the seaside area was like in the 90s. Good restaurants and cool shops in PSJ and Apalach with 1/4 of the crowd. I live in Panama City and my friends and I will air bnb in Apalachicola fairly frequently. Couldn’t tell you the last time I went to the seaside that I wasn’t required to go.

Conestoga Steakhouse is the best deal in town.

30A is for all of the pretentious Southerners who want to tell everybody that they stayed at 30A. Last time I stayed there I hated it. I don't understand how you f*cks can go to 30A/FL pandhandle and not get burned out on doing the same exact shite every single time.
I can get a 4 day trip for 2 and direct flight to Vegas and stay at the Venetian with my rewards card for 450 dollars a person. No way I get a condo on the beach in Destin for 4 days anywhere close to that and there’s tons more to do in Vegas

I’ve been to the sonic there, it’s a popular stopping point before you hit Florida

When I was in Russia a few years ago, I spent most of a subway ride looking at the transit map for the Moscow Metro. I have to say, I was impressed by the layout.

Just got a room for 4 nights in August on the beach side of E30A for $2700. Looking forward to it. Alys was twice that.

You don’t have to tell everybody.

Bay scallops are a hoot to hunt for too.
That’s too far for LA folks to drive…takes too long camping out in the left lane.

I'm in Headland now (just outside of Dothan). Have a hunting/retirement spread here. Love Dothan and the Wiregrass area.

Ran a XC meet at University of Troy-Dothan my senior year (sunbelt conference meet hosted by troy) and ran like a complete scrub. Only experience there so I hate it.

Saw the loop on our navigation as we were driving through Florida and thought it was cool. I’ve seen bigger cities like Atlanta situated like this, but never a small town.
I’m sure it’s country AF over there
Grew up there in the 90s, and go back a couple times a year to visit my dad or my wife's family. Yeah it is country, but what southern Alabama town isn't? The restaurants and retail have grown a ton since I moved away. What used to be the outskirts of town just above the circle is booming. They built a Walmart out there a while back and several strip malls and a new theater opened up across highway 231 from there. We lived inside the circle right at the heart of town, but for some reason our high school was way across town outside the circle. I guess it was cheap land back in the 70s/80s when it was built. From what I've heard from friends that still live there, public schools are shitty now and everyone puts their kids in private school.
Like others have said, the circle has horrible traffic, and I guess if you weren't from there you wouldn't know the quicker ways through town.

I agree with you on this.
Vegas > 30A

Dothan is the closest "city" to me and it's 45 minutes away. Rural, yes, and we like it that way ;)

Atlanta needs to do what Raleigh did
Raleigh isn't on a major thoroughfare, I95 is 45 minutes away and 40 in NC doesn't have any traffic...that loop is for only if you wanna take the long way to Durham.
I lived there a couple years, they don't have a traffic problem because people aren't really passing through.
In ATL 85, 75 and 20 all have 10x the traffic of 40 in Raleigh everyday.
But your main point is right, ATL needs a complete bypass for trucks to get around it.

Former Habit Magazine owner Brandi Snyder lives nearby Dothan...just sayin'

A damn Loop? Every small town in TX that I pass through has a loop around it.
