It's the opposite in who I know. Lesbians, yes. Of course I know some older lesbians who have been together for years, but kept iy on the DL when younger for obvious reasons. So they're pretty settled and happy.

Old friend that used to be like a brother to me moved From Lafayette to Atlanta. Before the move, real laid back, almost hippy art student. Now catty, hateful, and I really have a hard time being around him. Sad actually.

I once had a Philosophy/Ethics professor who was an old, hippie lesbian. She was cool as hell, drove an old 4 wheel drive Dodge pickemup truck and played Grateful Dead loudly on the radio when she pulled into the parking lot.
I actually ran across her several years later and she had retired from teaching and her and her wife had gotten into breeding show dogs of some kind. We talked for probably an hour or more. She was one of my favorite professors in college.

I knew a couple that lived two houses over from us when we were still in nola. Retired school teachers and happy as larks. Told me and the wife they had been together for fifty years.

One time I was on a team with a lesbian couple. When the topic had anything to do with musicals, we lost those games. It was exactly like me getting sports questions.
ETA: I bet a lot of the ones people know that aren't happy, are ones that didn't move to far away from where they grew up. Living in a city the size of Dallas, it was nothing to know gay people, and as I've mentioned before, lin the TV ad threads, lots of interracial couples.

Yes one of my best friends for the last 35 years. She's just a solid person who does waste water management in D/FW and owned her own business for years. She's very conservative politically. She took in her druggie brother for years until he finally imploded and died. We've played tennis and had beers together too many times to count. I wish I had more friends like her...
