For the standard drivers here, how often did you waggle the stick back in forth in nuetral at a red light? It was pretty much my nervous twitch for years

Every. Single. One!

It became a habit. Even when I knew I was in neutral

Yes but only because my dad bought an old chevy 1500 work truck for dirt cheap as a throw away. I am talking blue vinyl seats and floor shiftier.

He made me take that car only for a few weeks until I was comfortable before I got to drive my equally old chevy blazer.

I’ve only driven one once, when I was like 15 and had my driver’s permit. Never on my own. I understand the mechanics of it so I’m sure I’d be fine after 5 minutes, but I’ve never needed to.

Yeah, that's how it started. Someone advised me to make sure I wasn't in 3rd or something when stopped, so put it in neutral and then put it in gear. Did it for the hell of it after a while.

I drive a stick. Before I bought my current vehicle I didn't know how.

I'm sure the vast majority of people on this site do not know how to drive a stick as most of the population doesn't know how.

cosmo, it seriously takes maybe 1/2 hour to so to get comfortable driving a stick.

Not true. I used to drive the camp jeep around on country roads, but was nervous taking it into town. When you grew up on auto, some simple things just aren't engrained in your driving muscle memory. Like I always feared forgetting I was in a standard at a light and just taking off like I was in an automatic....stalling on a slight uphill, and fricking the whole light up for everyone.

I've driven only manual my whole life. I drove an automatic once and it felt weird. Wouldn't do it again unless I just had to.

Dude I have a mini freak out every time someone gets right up on my bumper when I'm stopped on an incline.

Absolutely terrified of slipping and rolling back into them.

Only did when driving a small tractor to pull a bush hog when I was 12-15 years old. Don't really see the point in it for driving around town.

Did everyone:

A) Parked in gear

B) Parked in neutral with the parking brake on

I think I rarely left it in gear, but I'm sure that was the better option.

every time.

here in TN you dont pull the ebrake up enough and it will start rolling.

I have to park in reverse to remove the key from the ignition.

I knew people who would just leave it in gear, no ebrake. Was told that was fine but I never felt comfortable with it.
