My first two vehicles were standards. Fun as hell to drive until you stall out at a red light

Even Jeeps?
I never understood how anyone could have an automatic Jeep. It just felt natural to have a manual Jeep.

I've only owned a manual transmission.

Best theft-deterrent available IMO.

It's not THAT easy. The hardest thing to learn is going from a stand still. They get it in your head that it's 1 to 1 on the clutch and gas, but that will mess you up if you're at a stop. It took me a few days to get the feel of how much to let up on the clutch and how much gas to give it. Once you're going, it's a piece of cake. Then it's learning about downshifting and how not to go from 2nd to 5th.

No idea how it works. No desire to learn. My seed is strong. It’s like learning Latin. Serves no real purpose unless you wanna show someone what you know.

Current daily driver, 97 4 runner with a stick.

I’ve always preferred manual transmission to auto, and like another poster said it’s pretty much it’s own anti theft device.

I could move my dad's weekend car to a different spot in the driveway or around the block, but it was before I was really old enough to really drive. I'm sure it's a little different in traffic, but it's not rocket science.

Yeah. Walk onto a jeep lot. 99% are automatic. Damn shame.

I agree. Some cars are different as well. Had a Mazda RX7 that was much tighter than my Jeep. You really had to be on point with the Mazda. The Jeep was more forgiving.

Probably.

You use to be in control and it depended on how good you were on the wear and tear you would put on the transmission.
I went 12 years with the same clutch and zero problems to my trans. I was fortunate I guess.

I learned in to use a clutch on an old Ford tractor, then on a old three-on-the-tree Chevy in a pasture. I appreciate my grandfather a little but more now.

How about a dirt bike? The concepts of gear changing and slipping the clutch are really about the same, and once you get that down, you can prolly handle a stick in a car.

shite. My grandpa drove me to a parking lot. Had me drive circles for 5 min then drive home.

For a solid month I took only back roads that had zero incline and as few red-light/stop signs as possible until I was confident nor to stall.

I decide to take the door and top off and do a frat lap down sorority row. Got behind a Greek bus and stalled right in front of chi o

Dated a girl who had this tiny standard car that I swear I was pushing my foot through the floor on the clutch to get it to shift. Hated driving that thing.

For the standard drivers here, how often did you waggle the stick back in forth in nuetral at a red light? It was pretty much my nervous twitch for years

When I was shopping for car insurance, the agent asked if it had a theft deterrent device installed. I told him it was a four speed manual and he laughed and he gave me the discount.
