Anyone on the OT ever try to help a suicidal friend by calling the EMS on them only to have it come back and bite you?

Short version: Mutual friend of mine tried to OD on pills Monday, and failed. Went to his house Tuesday, distracted him and took his handgun he had sitting on his sofa. He went ballistic and started hitting himself. Called the EMS, and they took him to University. Hospital let him out after one day. Now is sending harassing text messages to my wife and I saying he is going to string me up and eat my heart. Also threatening to show up at my work(basically dared me to come to work today.) I can now understand why people are cold and uncaring. Maybe I should have just not gotten involved and just let him do what he wants to do.

Sounds like you might need to call the police. But I don't know.

I'm not "cold and uncaring" - but, I stick my neck out for nobody.

I take care of me and my own, period. If everybody did that and stayed in his or her own lane, we would all be a lot better off.

My thoughts exactly. The OT has warped my mind.

OP call his family and try to get him some help. If not
call the police, or go to their station and talk to an officer. He needs to be picked up and held for a psychiatric hold.

That guy either needs medical help. He will hurt someone, himself, or both.

Unless you actually talk them INTO suicide, then how can it bite you? If they don't GAF that you tried to help them, then they can get eff'ed.

ETA: My secretary's daughter "tried" to take her life yesterday with an OD. Was in ICU all day. She's an idiot though.

Should have been released to a mental health center if he went to the ER threatening suicide.

Sounds like he absolutely needs hospitalization.

Both suicidal and homicidal threats....pretty good chance at mandatory hospitalization through probate commitment. Is he receiving services somewhere that you know of?

That's too far for me, especially considering you know this guy is unhinged.

I hope so. If he said that shite to me/my wife, I would want to kill him myself, suicidal or not. You seem very understanding.

Considering he only wanted to hurt himself prior to your intervention, but now he wants to also hurt you and your wife, I am glad you realize this was the correct decision in retrospect. Use it later in life if you ever find yourself in a similar situation.
