I can't live like that. I enjoy being social and lunch is part of that. I'd be miserable if I ate a sandwich at my desk every day.

correct, only people who eat at the office are the nerds. And we spend our lunches at Hooters making fun of those guys

I do. And usually at a place that costs at least 20 bucks to eat

I probably eat out 4-5 nights a week as well. I'm single and hate cooking but make plenty money so it's easier

Eat at the pier here just about every day. Me and two other associates take turns picking up the tab but it gets expensive. I picked it up yesterday and with drinks and tips it was $300 for lunch. It does add up but I enjoy it and it's not like I am eating shitty fast food for lunch like your coworkers.

Same here. I flew in really late one night from Mexico a few months back and was starving and nothing was open but In and Out burger so I got one through Uber Eats and felt like shite for two days after. Next time I will just starve.

I eat out for lunch everyday. Depending on where I go lunch usually runs anywhere between $10-20 so let's call it $15 per day or $75 per week. So that is like one hours pay. No big deal.

Like watching guys blow their whole daily per diem just because they had it. Steak & lobster every day instead of thinking it was an extra paycheck that was tax free. Idiots

I eat out on average once a week just to get out of the office. On Sundays I normally decide what I want for lunches and prep for the week. Saves money and calories.

So roughly 1/8 of your pretax income or 12.5%. After tax closer to 20%. I'd say that's a pretty big deal. 1% of pay/month. You're spending 12 days of total pay, 6-7% yearly pay, on just lunch.

I think he was saying that he bills out at $75 an hour which would make your numbers way off.

More like 1/40 or 2.5% of pre-tax income per week.

What do you eat that is that cheap? Do you work in an urban areas? I work in downtown Dallas and the cheapest place close to my office is $11 or so.

When I want to go cheap, I hit CFA and get a regular chicken sandwich (extra pickles, which ensures I get a FRESH one), a water and some ranch for the sandwich. Totals $3.66 and probably better for me and better tasting than a lot of crap I could spend $10 on. Heck, the number 1 combo is less than $7.

Lately I've been picking up to go orders most days

Average lunch costs me about 9 dollars

I don't care because I'm out of town and my per diem more than covers it

What are you putting on yours? Caviar?

Last time I checked ham and turkey are pretty cheap.

I reran my numbers and it's probably more 4-5% instead of 6-7%, but you could cook a steak and eat that for lunch everyday and cut that number in half. Like I said earlier in the thread, if you can afford it, go for it, but eating out at minimum doubles food expense. Id rather take that substantial savings and do something fun with the money.
