For perspective add up what you spend a day on things that you could do yourself. Bag lunch instead of eating out, make your coffee at home or office instead of the 3-4 bucks at Starbucks and multiply those by how many days you work a year. It's great that you make a lot of money, but that really adds up. In a lot of cases that's a good retirement contribution that's being pissed away needlessly. And don't even get me started on how unhealthy it is to eat out every day.

I do, but I usually end up spending about 3-4% of my daily income. I could definitely save more by planning ahead and bringing something and would definitely like to, but it’s not going to break the bank if I don’t.

99% chance they have no retirement and your tax dollars will be supporting them in 20-30 years or they will never retire and hold the economy back and take thse jobs from young more efficient workers. Your attitude is the reason that personal finance in this country is in the shitter.

I measure my value of time in what it costs me versus what I generate in revenue. This is the primary reason that I pay people to do work on my house. Can I do most of what they're doing? Absolutely yes. However, I generate many multiples more an hour in revenue if I focus on my business.

The one thing I do on a workday is to make my shots of espresso at home in the morning before heading in. Lunch is a getaway for a half hour or so. I don't want to eat with or be around my workers so I break away for lunch.

I work near Citiplace and eat out maybe three times a month. The rest of the time, I bring my lunch because it's so expensive to lunch out every day.

And they have zero savings, credit, or financial plan.

No idea how people can eat out for lunch everyday and not be grossly overweight. Maybe they get salads with no dressing. But withthe health issues of eating out every day, the flat cost of the meal, the cost of gas and mileage from driving to get food, and the lost time sitting in traffic and waiting for your food, the whole thing ends up being a massive drain on you. But most people that eat out every day are working poor

Amazes me how a gaggle of office girls making probably $10 an hour or so will spend $10 a day ordering out for lunch. Over 10% of your daily income gone right there.

Maybe they have Sugar Baws/Ballers taking care of them.

In that case, I spend a lot of money I could be saving on golf every weekend, but you know what? I enjoy playing golf and my retirement is in good shape so frick off.

Worry about your goals and finances and let me worry about mine, baw.

I wish I got a lunch break.
End up eating a granola bar or peanut butter crackers..

however I do eat some variation of fast food for dinner, the one big meal of the day so I can relate to the thread.

Food is by far my biggest expense of the month.

Pretty much. Got to be social/get out of the office. Eat lunch out at restaurants everyday. Cook dinner at home. Lunch at most costs $20. Dinner would cost like $30-$60, instead costs only like $10-$20 now.

I can't live like that. I enjoy being social and lunch is part of that. I'd be miserable if I ate a sandwich at my desk every day.

This is insane. I probably spend around $4,000/year on food, including eating out. If you have the money, good bless you, but I'd rather spend my money on vacations or hobbies like golf or something than eating.

Just curious how you came to this conclusion? I work with quite a few people who eat out just about every day and they are far from working poor.

He's probably not right, bit that doesn't change the fact that most unskilled people that make $10-$15 an hour are also the biggest consumers of fast food.
