I've found the store brand goes bad quicker than the name brand.

My wife says this too. Often times Kleinpeter will have a date 15 days out and the store brand will be 6. We don't use a lot of milk so I don't mind paying more.

I know a guy that is the store manager of a Walmart in Texas. I asked him about the milk thing. He said he does not allow milk to come into the store unless it’s at least 15 days out from its expiration date…that goes for store brand as well. The issue is that they get WAYYYYYY more store brand milk than say Borden or kleinpeter so it usually just sits on a pallet in the cooler for a week before it is rotated into stock, whereas the name brand stuff is almost always put on the shelf immediately due to the smaller quantities they receive.

Makes sense. We usually only do groceries every 2 weeks so having the longer expiration date is worth the extra cost. My wife claims it tastes better too but that might just be in her head

Not all is bad. I bought a Choice chuck roast at Rousse's last week for $2.99 / lb.

No. I'm not letting Pedo joe and the pedocrats change anything I do. Only additional thing I'm buying extra is a quart of oil every two weeks to burn in my trash pile just to say frick you pedo joe.

No because I get per diem. When I go home from work I just bring my groceries with me to the house. Only need a few things at that point.

Wut? You realize you are still paying for it right? If you didn’t buy it you would still have them cash…

Now you have me wondering what we spent on the wings we bought last week I don’t remember. It was those smaller packs of wings already split apart into wingettes, 2 packs of them.

Then you probably paid more for the labor.

When the pandemic started we began buying just healthy essentials and cut out all of the snacks and other BS. Both to lose weight and be healthy, and to give back to our local communities and stop contributing to megacorps without our best interests in mind.

Since Pedo Joe is in office I have not changed what I buy besides having to adjust for empty stock of certain things. We primarily eat ground beef, steaks, eggs, cheese, bacon, salmon, and chicken, and I'm not going to change any of that because of pedo joe. We already do a good job of repurposing leftovers, simply because it reduces the work of cooking to eat everything.

Chest freezers are super cheap and very efficient, you can get a decent size one for like $200. We buy everything in bulk if possible and freeze it, and when we have spare time we prepare meals and freeze those too. For example I can take like an hour to prepare 10 quarts of chili, let it go on the slow cooker, then cool and freeze them into bowl-sized cubes which I vacuum seal and stock in the freezer. You can put one of these in the microwave, throw some cheese on top, and have a hot meal in 20 mins.

With a little time and effort you can save a lot of money and eat way healthier and even maintain a good amount of convenience.

Also been thinking about getting another freezer and buying a quarter cow from a ranch at once. I just have to make a plan for the power during hurricane season.

Wings that had already been separated at Costco were $3.29 lb last week when I went.

Not a chance it will be that small. Increased transportation costs alone will account for more than that. Material costs are up and labor too.

Definitely have changed habits. Only meat we plan to buy on shopping trips is ground beef and frozen boneless skinless chicken breast. All other meat is only purchased when Krogers or Brookshires is running a sale or we come across meat being clearances due to usable date. When we come across really good sales I stock up freezer. Bought a few 4 packs of Angus NY Strips today for $5.99 lb regular $11 lb. Bought a skirt steak marked down to 7.99 lb. Last trip picked up 3 chuck roasts that would have been $20 ea for $10 and a big pack of sirloins that was originally marked $35 but had been marked down to about $17 for a sale and then got to last useable day to sale and was clearanced to $8. Split pack in half and froze. Will shave them real thin later for Philly cheesesteaks. Used to buy whatever I wanted when I was ready for it but now forced to look for sales and freeze til I need them.

Probably. I hate splitting apart wings, so that is worth it.

That said, a local bar still does their $0.50 wing night which is a complete shock to me.

The shitty little 8 ozpacks of frozen "crawfish tails" they sell here in NE Alabama for $22 can stay frozen. Really miss having that. Also canned real crab meat is 22 a can now. Miss those as well.
