Here too. I am shocked at the price of chicken wings.

I bought some frozen wings in a 5 lb. bag several weeks ago that were priced decent, so I got them. Huge mistake once I got them defrosted. They looked like they came from the area of the destroyed Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. They were more "mystery meat" than chicken wings.

I wound up making chicken stock with them.

The chicken i will have to bite the bullet no matter what .

I shop at Rouses for chickens most of the time and I was in there yesterday. Whole Fryers are $.99 a lb., 10 lb. bags of leg quarters were selling for $3.50 each---I got 20 lbs. worth and they were nice. Then the cut-off of the backbone/pelvis is used to make chicken stock.

They will often put split chicken breasts on sale for $.99 a lb. and I'll pick up several packs to vacuum seal and freeze.

Same here. Between the Eggs and Milk prices maybe should get a milking cow and Some hen's for eggs. If this keeps up for a year they have paid for themselves .

you do have a nice backyard might not be a bad ideal. I want a family discount when you get that farm up and running.

probably one of the few products where "names" v. generic doesn't matter, or at least it was when I kept up with that kind of shite

Paying $2 more for a gallon of milk every 2 weeks ain't a hill to die on

I actually cut back on shopping at a grocery store. I buy meat, fruit, and veggies direct from farms near me or a farmer's market. I buy eggs from a coworker.

Oh you're just so goddamn smug, aren't you.

I buy less meat. I would often always buy chicken, beef, pork and ground beef every shopping trip for meals. Now I get ground beef and pork. Chicken I buy frozen and only cook in insta pot /slow cook meals.

I don't get a many snacks either.
I also make less sides. Though we are a wasteful family. I hate how much food I throw away.

Now you have me wondering what we spent on the wings we bought last week I don’t remember. It was those smaller packs of wings already split apart into wingettes, 2 packs of them.

I have a chest freezer in my garage and when I see something on sale I buy a lot of it and separate it and freeze it.

Somewhat. Certain things just aren’t as appealing at higher prices including dining out. Our weekly grocery bill was about $250 for many years. Now it’s pushing $400 as things are more expensive and we are buying more offsetting the normal weekend restaurant expenses.

Same. I’m trying hard to change it not even necessarily because I need to monetarily, but because it’s just wasteful and careless.

I’ve starting buying proteins (or separating and freezing proteins) in portions that only feed the two of us anytime I can. For example, my store packages two leg quarters for $1.50 a pack. I only cook the two. Leftovers just don’t get eaten enough in our house.

I wouldn’t say we’ve cut out buying anything in particular, but for example leg quarters, I’m buying lower priced cuts I never bought previously just because they’re so much better priced.

I've found the store brand goes bad quicker than the name brand.
