Any Watch experts here? Dumb question about an old Citizen watch

My dad died 7 years ago, and I've had a box of his stuff in my home safe since then. Nothing all that valuable, mostly just stuff I wanted to keep of his. In there is an old Citizen watch I remember him being fond of when I was growing up. Guessing he got it around 1980 or so.

Anyway, I'm not much a watch person but want to start wearing that watch. Problem is is it has a metal band and I know I hate watches with a metal band. Would it look funny to have a leather or silicone or rubber band(not a literal rubber band, obviously) put on it? It needs a new battery as well, and hell it might need other repairs. No telling how long it sat in his dresser after he upgraded to a Tissot watch. Wasn't sure if it was even possible to put a leather or rubber band on a watch with a metal band.

If you want to change the band, change it. Who cares how it looks? It's your dad's watch- do your thing, dude.

A good watch repair place can put a nice leather band on it.

Do you have a pic of it or know the model/style?

Got a photo? If it’s not an integral band you can just measure the lug width and buy any band for it. Be cool if you could get it reconditioned by the manufacturer...minus the bracelet work.

You don't need an expert to change a watch band, unless you don't feel like doing it yourself.

Doh. Meant to post a pic. I can't find the exact one on the Google, but it's very similar to this one. The bezel has red and blue on it though instead of that black.

That’ll be great on a thick James Bond NATO strap.

It has Pepsi bezel.

Ah, that pulled up lots of pics of similar watches. I believe the one on the right is the one I have, but I'd have to check.

battery

the watch you posted is an automatic. it doesn't need a battery if it's an automatic. shake it up in your hand for a few mins to get it moving again.

You better 'watch' Gaston. he will try to trade you a 30-second video of his son's travel soccer glory for that watch. Do not make that trade.

Slow-mo video, for effect of course.

I’m so close to not being a travel soccer dad anymore...kid’s got one more tournament before State. Then it’s all gloriously over!

Take two pictures of your actual watch, dial (front) and caseback.

It’s a near certainty that you can change the bracelet, but let’s get a bit more info before you turn into the butt of a joke at the watch repair shop.

I had no idea Citizen was putting out automatic watches in 1980. That's a nice looking watch, actually.

It’s super easy to take that off. Once you do get a nice dark brown leather nato and some bond natos. I like navy and white or black and grey. But you can get crazy with color if u like.
