I have the same problem with 2 human boys ages 2 and 5. Outside play helps but it’s so damn hot they want to come inside quickly.... still want to play fight and tackle all the rimeYelling works for about 2 minutes, let me know if you figure this mammalian problem out.

get them tired and put them to bed - a large crate for them, and drape a sheet on top. Make it nice and dark. They'll go to sleep.

However, when my girlfriends dog is around (older smaller dog) all he wants to do is rough house and play. They go back and forth all night long.

They are dogs. That's what they do.

We trained our two dogs to go outside when they want to play. They are 60-70 lbs so had to nip that in the bud with 4 small kidsin the house.

Wouldn't that be "dog playing"...?

Put the horse outside. Problem solved.

Put them outside and let them be dogs

Make them live outside where dogs belong.

We can give you better analysis if you provide pics of the girlfriend.

give the puppy more exercise, pretty simple

Vigorous exercise or playtime outside before bringing them in. Crate them at night.

People who keep dogs in their house have dirty houses.

we have the same problem or did.
2 year old vizsla - stays outside 8 hours a day.
6 month old maltipoo - kenneled for 8 hours a day.
vizsla plays plays all day outside. chasing squirrels, birds, and lizards. She's beginning to slow down on her own. No more sprinting thru the house when she's allowed inside. Generally, when she comes inside for the evening, she wants to eat, drink some water, get some pets, and then lay down. She's out by the time the sun is down. Malti-Poo, wife's companion, full of energy and despite being a small fluffy 8lb midget can play ALL day long. Loves the vizsla. They play outside in the backyard together from 3PM - 8PM most days, weekends more.
At night. The vizsla wants to come inside, eat, love on us a few minutes, and then pass out by 8:30-9:00PM. The maltipoo keeps her up by aggravating her or finding squeaky toys to run past her with. I know she's a puppy and she has a lot of energy, but from 8PM - 10PM that me and the wifes' relax and settle down for the night time. We watch tv, joint read a book, talk, etc. Maltipoo wants to play play play. Drives us crazy and i know the vizsla gets annoyed from time to time.
So, we decided that when it's past 8PM and they come inside. Play time is over when they step in the door. No playing inside in fact. We will strictly tell the Maltipoo "NO!" when she starts it up. She will sulk a little but come lie down by one of us and relax. Vizsla goes back to sleep. Most of the time that has been working. If she is overly energetic one night, we give her a chance or two. And if she won't stop, she gets kenneled for the night.
It's been working pretty well. No playing inside at night.

Rub some Tabasco sauce under their lips when they act up.
