I just got a puppy a few months ago and he’s full of energy. We give him toys, treats and give him plenty of exercise to help him burn it off. Generally he’s pretty good. However, when my girlfriends dog is around (older smaller dog) all he wants to do is rough house and play. They go back and forth all night long.

Any tips on curtailing that behavior and getting him to understand it’s not okay inside of the house?

So they think they’re horses?

Wear them both out more. Walks and dog parks.

When they first get together, leave them outside for an hour.

Bring them in when they are tired and ready for a nap. People are always shocked at how well behaved my lab is at dog friendly bars. It’s because I run her on the levee an hour before.

Take them outside to burn up energy then be firm with them inside about behaving.

Didn’t work with my 2 labs, the big one smashed the little one into the wall chasing a ball(they toss it themselves with their mouths). Had to fix a few holes in the sheetrock thanks to them.

Are they breaking anything? If not, isn't what they're doing kind of the point of having two dogs?

That was my first thought. When we got a second dog it was specifically so the older one could have a buddy to play with

Spray bottle to the face or wack it on the nose with a rolled up newspaper or magazine.

There's a newly opened spot at a river in Australia where one of your dogs can play with a croc. Lots of exercise opportunity there.

For playing?

Seems like it would confuse the hell out of them

Got to figure out how to expend that energy. Its not necessarily both of them. I have two and my border collie pup wants to play all day and night. So I play fetch with him for about an hr or so every day just so that he won't mess with my lazy beagle later. Working so far.

Exercise, exercise and more exercise.

The lack of exercise is the cause of many problems for dog owners.

Wear their asses out daily. It will solve most destructive behaviors.

Are they playing with one another, or is the puppy annoying the older dog?

I have the same problem with 2 human boys ages 2 and 5. Outside play helps but it’s so damn hot they want to come inside quickly.... still want to play fight and tackle all the rimeYelling works for about 2 minutes, let me know if you figure this mammalian problem out.
