Jerm, I must tell you I have lost my aforementioned faith in you. You come on the OT and admit you’re scared of a little MRI and get triggered when you get a little ribbing? Perhaps you may indeed need to fear the machine, after all.

I’m not an a-hole just messing around. I’ve had an MRI before checking on lesions on my pituitary gland (that explains everything about what’s wrong with me). It wasn’t too loud but honestly wasn’t claustrophobic to me. It only lasted iirc 15-20 min. If you have access to meds that can chill you out maybe take one.

Practice by napping in your smallest closet.

Be as still as possible when they tell you to. And don't be afraid to adjust when they say it's free to move
Let them know it's your first, you will be antsy when you need to be still, but letting them know ahead of time they'll give you time to get comfortable before each still time.
No matter what you do, your face will start itching as soon as they say be still. With or without the mask, this happens without fail.

Just sit there and think to yourself, this is what its going to be like when I die for all of eternity. If you do this, your anxiety and claustrophobia will disappear.

MRI for lower body injury or upper body?
Lower body I wasn’t placed all the way in the machine and it was quick and easy.
For my shoulder, they injected this ink in me first (didn’t hurt, but was a very strange 5-10 second sensation). I was all the way enclosed and it took longer because I moved a little bit.
All that being said, of all medical procedures, MRI’s aren’t something to stress about

It all depends on WHERE the MRI is targeting on your body. I had one of my right knee and it was easy, other than having to lay completely still for about 24 minutes. Also had one last month on my right shoulder. This sucked. Had to go in head first and most of my body but my ankles were in the machine. It’s loud and very tight spacing, so my anxiety was in high gear the entire time. Multiple instances of wanting to hit the signal to get me out of there. I made it through though.
Also, yes, definitely no mask in a room alone in a machine LOL. If they ask you to wear one in there for some strange reason you should politely decline.

I’ve had two. First one I had my arms down by my side. HATED THAT! Could not move for one hour.
Second one I had I took two Xanax and asked if I could have my arms out above my head. Night and day difference. Could scratch my face if it itched and dozed off. Felt like I was in there 1 minute.
If they are scanning below your neck you should be able to have your arms out. They were scanning my prostate.

Open MRIs are garbage compared to a conventional MRI. Poor quality.
This, if you want the best quality imaging avoid all open MRI. Most conventional MRI systems installed in the last 5-7 years have short magnets with large bore openings, nothing like the older stuff that was like being in a sewer pipe. For a scan of any body part other than the head, your head will usually be partially or completely out of the magnet

You can try the ole Cole Trickle.
"Could someone talk to me?"
"When I'm driving, I've got a guy on the radio who talks to me."
If you a real Baw, you would try this Cole Trickle.
"Doc... Isn't this what you're really looking for?"

Ear buds and keep your eyes closed.

I usually just have the hooker tell me if she feels any bumps while she's rubbing on it.
What? Why are you looking at me like that?

I’m admittedly scared about having my MRI tomorrow morning. I have to wear a mask which makes it worse in my opinion.
Don’t listen to these assholes. There are degrees of claustrophobia. Some people can’t handle the horizontal MRI, some can but swear that they’re “claustrophobic “.
If it’s too much for you, you can push the button and they pull you out. They may have to sedate you or move you to a vertical MRI that doesn’t have the machine near your face.
Either way you don’t have to worry about being trapped. They’ll get you out if you want out.
If you’re a big guy it can be stressful. Those machines are made for average people.

Close your eyes before they put you in the tube. Do not open them until they pull you out. Like, don’t open them at all, even for a second.

Not even if Freddy tries to kill you?

Avoid Open MRIs, lesser quality and much longer scan times. Modern systems are roomy and extremely fast. Suck it up, not as bad as you are imagining

I tend to apologize for snoring when they wake me up to tell me it is over.

Valium and keep your eyes shut the entire time. Don't open them at all. Helped me a lot. Actually fell asleep sticking to this.
