What body part are they checking? Anything below the waist and you won’t be enclosed at all. It is loud as frick, though. Don’t underestimate this and prepare accordingly. They’ll give you those foam orange plugs, but they don’t do white—seriously, take some noise canceling headphones. Depending on what you’re getting recorded, of course.

Close your eyes lightly. Don’t move. Choose relaxing music. When I got in there the tech told me I could take the mask off and I was told otherwise initially. Every place is different I would imagine though. There’s nothing bad about it... it’s just loud.

I've had a few before and a couple of CT scans. It's not too bad. They'll get you out if you start freaking out.

The hype is worse than the experience. You can pick the tunes, if you’re really upset they can give you a sedative, but will need a ride home.

It’s loud and annoying to lay in place still for all that time.
I hate them because I have a spinal condition that makes laying on a flat surface unbearably painful.

You can ask for sedation, but if you haven't already, you will have to reschedule...it takes longer so they need to put you in a bigger timeslot. ETA: As another poster mentioned, they require you to have a ride home.
Some facilities offer open MRIs as well, which are mostly used for obese patients, or those with SEVERE claustrophobia or anxiety. If your clinic offers it, though, you can ask. Again, you'll have to reschedule.
Honestly, though, if the tube isn't the part that freaks you out, you have nothing to be afraid of. You can listen to music, and some places allow you to watch a movie with VR goggles (depending on the length of the scan).
It's loud, but strangely kind of relaxing.

I've had 2 of my brain over the past year. One that found tumor and a second to see how much it has decreased in size over the year(fortunately it has). I knew each exam was going to last about 25 minutes. I do not think that anyone enjoys these tests, especially if claustrophobic, like I am. Also, it's very loud (you'll be given ear plugs) and the machine will vibrate.
My machine did not have music. But before I went in I had my own play list in my head. In my head I sang "Taxi", the Taxi "Sequel", "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Hey Jude". I tried to sing/hear them as close to the original as possible to get as many minutes as possible out of each song. By the time I was finished the "Dah, dah, dah, dah-dah-dah-dahs of "Hey Jude", I was pretty much finished the test.
I was given a choice as to whether I wanted a time update between pictures. I said, "no". I figured I'd do my own time calculations.
Also, if you are having an MRI with and without contract, know that the contrast gives you a cold feeling. During my first test I thought that the injection site was leaking and tried to look, moving my head a a crucial time. I was ready and knew that I'd feel a cold feeling when the contract was injected during the second test. So, be prepared if you're getting contrast.
Stay calm, keep your eyes closed, breathe, and sing to yourself (or have other pleasant thoughts which will pass the time). Good luck!
