I worked downtown and after I sat through the spiel by Fields, I asked to be put on call since I worked downtown. They called me back later that day and told me I was released.

Other than military duty, jury duty is the most important thing average citizens do to keep our country working.

Thank you for your service

Anyone have any experience in EBR having it postponed? What were the circumstances? Are they reasonable?

Wife's work requires 4 weeks notification for days off for scheduling purposes. She got the notification like you 2 weeks ahead. She called and explained and they gave her a new date 6 months later without any issue.

would I need to incapacitate myself or are scheduled plans enough?

It sucks for sure, but I am not sure I would incapacitate myself over jury duty...

I got out of jury duty once right after getting out of the psych hospital and calling to tell them I was so doped up there was no way I could physically sit through a trial

They said they'd reschedule me for 6 months but they never did. If worse comes to worse it may be worth a shot

Horrible advice, as their complaint will take the form of a bench warrant for your dumb arse.

Three years ago EBR Parish court had 180,000 outstanding bench warrants, ignoring jury duty notice is not something they are concerned about.

Also, the first day you and everyone they called will watch a video, and be briefed by a judge, you will fill out a questioner which asks things like have you are a family member been a victim of a crime, and what is your education level and profession. Then you wait for maybe two days to see if you are selected for a jury pool. If you are selected, only then will you actually be questioned by a attorney.

As others have said, they will reschedule you once. Make it clear that you are not trying to "get out of it" and just need to reschedule. The nice thing about the reschedule is that you actually get the date way in advance so you can easily plan around it.

They frequently do this once people are already there on the Monday morning jury pool orientation if they have a conflict later in the week. Since you are trying to avoid going at all, you will have to make those arrangements ahead of time and it will be more of a pain in the arse to figure out exactly what you need to do, but they will do it.

This being the OT, I would have been disappointed if no one had reiterated terrible advice.

Tell them that anyone who loses (civil or criminal case) should automatically get the death penalty.

I've told them I was working out of town, and gave them a date that I could go. They rescheduled me with no issues.

Ignore it.

I'm not sure what parish/country you're in, but where I live this would issue a warrant for your arrest.

I was supposed to report on 3/28 in WBR. Had to write a letter to tell the judge I'd be out of town and fax it in. Pretty easy.

Call the Jury Duty Office and ask to reschedule due to a scheduled family vacation. I have done this successfully several times. You will need to write them a letter and fax it in to make it official. Do not try to get out of jury duty! That will only make them mad and guarantee that you will have to report on the 28th.
