that's BS I've dealt with dental tourism issues through the ADA and can tell you that sign saying they were trained at University of Michigan means they signed up for a continuing Ed course there and got a certificate of completion for a week end course.
caveat emptor.

I am not sure if Mexico qualifies as a third world country. I know there is an industry there that does this for foreign travelers. The travel itself seems like the biggest beast in this one.

No. But I know a woman who went there for dental implants and they all went bad.

Now she looks like a clown with her sunken cheekbones and shriveled face.

I would just price around. I've done it and saved hundreds. In fact I found someone who said I didn't need a crown and he built the tooth (molar) back up with composite and it's been great for ten years so far. Call around.

My brother had a lot work done in Progesso on the border. By an American, board certified dentist. Saved thousands.

This is just like looking for quality healthcare in the US.
You have to do some research and get recommendations or you risk a very bad experience.
There are a number of countries where you can get first rate healthcare, where practitioners use Top US equipment and procedures identical to those used by US experts, often with US trained Docs at a fraction of the cost. This set of circumstances is why medical tourism exists and is a multi billion dollar business. The overarching superiority of US medicine is largely a myth.

U.S. military... same thing.

Local anesthetic jabbed into your gums, rip out your wisdom teeth, hand you some Motrin when it's done.

When we were living in Yemen, my wife had to have a filing replaced. The Yemeni dentist had been trained in Europe and did a good job. When she got back to the US her regular dentist said it was okay. Don't know what it cost because my employer paid for that service.

A friend of mine went to Peru. Had nothing but good things to say about the experience. What’s weird is my Euro friends go back home for almost any medical procedure except for dental work.

This is 100% mythical

It should be true but healthcare outcomes in 3rd world countries outperforms the US in many instances
