I posit, though, that perception is reality, and since Descarte says “I think, therefore, I am,” that we still do exist and have consciousness regardless of whose simulation we may be stuck in. No, there’s no bending time. They just create a simulation, only with “sentient beings.” Just like we can create a computer game that takes place 2000 years ago. It’s a simulation, not real time. And it doesn’t have to be a future civilization, I think that’s just an easy way to think about it.
I don’t know why. I’m sure there are lots of fun theories. Say, as a research experiment, or some problem solving experiment. Maybe they can learn from what we do. Maybe it’s just a form of entertainment. I don’t know. It’s just a theory based on mathematical probability, I don’t think anyone is very concerned with the why?
The math only attempts to support the theory that we are in a simulation, not the whys or hows or whos.

But what’s the difference if our experience feels the exact same? What would it matter if we were in a higher, organic being’s computer sim programmed by its code, a part of the God of Abraham’s grand plan and will, or a completely organic species that won the cosmic lottery with everything falling into the exactly perfect place for us to naturally evolve this consciousness? We’re still experiencing things exactly the same way—this is our reality regardless.

I don’t know. That’s the stuff of philosophers. It seems like there would be no difference to someone living in a simulation. That would be a false perception though, wouldn’t it?
I’m sure the simulation theory could still fit into a universe created and governed by the God of Abraham. Conversely, the God of Abraham could be a computer, or a computer technician running a simulation. Maybe the God of Abraham created the civilization that runs simulations. Maybe that’s something made up by us, maybe not. Maybe a bunch of weird stuff.

Mentioning machine elves is funny. I tend to think that consciousness exists in a plane outside of the material universe, but different levels of wet-hardware are required for the software to run, if you catch my drift. How and why certain hardware gets to those advanced states is beyond me.
