DoubeD - here's an article on why people are flocking to TX.
LINK
10 reasons why so many people are moving to Texas
1. Jobs.
2. It's cheaper.
3. Homes.
4. Low tax.
7. Family-friendly. Because of its good-value housing, Texas has been particularly popular with families, and some of its cities now have an above-average number of children.
In Texas, you can have a reasonable mortgage and pretty good schools, says Grieder. And restaurants are invariably family-friendly.
8. Fewer rules.
9. Texans are normal people.
10. And they're not going anywhere..

10 reasons why so many people are moving to Texas
1. Jobs.
quote:
The unconventional oil and gas boom has helped turn Texas into an economic juggernaut, particularly world energy capital Houston, but growth has also been strong in tech, manufacturing and business services."
2. It's cheaper.
quote:
Once employed, it's hugely important that your pay cheque goes as far as possible, says Kotkin.
"New York, LA and the [San Francisco] Bay Area are too expensive for most people to live, but Houston has the highest 'effective' pay cheque in the country."
Kotkin came to this conclusion after looking at the average incomes in the country's 51 largest metro areas, and adjusting them for the cost of living. His results put three Texan areas in the top 10.
Houston is top because of the region's relatively low cost of living, including consumer prices, utilities and transport costs and, most importantly, housing prices, he says.
3. Homes.
quote:
Land is cheaper than elsewhere and the process of land acquisition very efficient, says Dr Ali Anari, research economist at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University.
"From the time of getting a building permit right through to the construction of homes, Texas is much quicker than other states.
"There is an abundant supply of land and fewer regulations and more friendly government, generally a much better business attitude here than other states."
4. Low tax.
quote:
Texas is one of only seven states where residents pay no personal state income tax, says Kay Bell, contributing tax editor at Bankrate and Texan native.
The state has a disproportionate take from property taxes, which has become a big complaint among homeowners, she adds. But overall, only five states had a lower individual tax burden than Texas, according to Tax Foundation research.
There are also tax incentives for businesses and this week legislators cut more than $1bn off proposed business taxes.
7. Family-friendly. Because of its good-value housing, Texas has been particularly popular with families, and some of its cities now have an above-average number of children.
In Texas, you can have a reasonable mortgage and pretty good schools, says Grieder. And restaurants are invariably family-friendly.
8. Fewer rules.
quote:
"Texas is liberal in the classic sense, it's laissez-faire, so there's a lack of regulations," says Grieder, and this can apply to the obvious (business regulations) or the less obvious (city rules).
"The classic social contract is - we're not going to do a ton to help you but we're not going to get in your way. That's not 100% true of the state but there's that strand in the state."
9. Texans are normal people.
quote:
The state likes to proclaim itself as an unpretentious, down-to-earth place where people are easy to get along with.
As John Steinbeck wrote: "Texas has a tight cohesiveness perhaps stronger than any other section of America."
And for people with conservative values, it could be a natural home, although demographic shifts have prompted speculation it will be a Democratic state in the future.
People dream about moving to California, but they don't dream about moving to Texas, says Grieder, yet many of those reluctant to move there end up liking it.
10. And they're not going anywhere..
quote:
All this doesn't just bring in new arrivals - native Texans aren't leaving the state either. It is the "stickiest" state in the country, according to the latest figures from the Pew Research Center, which suggest that more than three-quarters of adults born in Texas still live there. Alaska is the least sticky.

Only sorry I did not get out sooner with my family and raise my family here!
My daughter is 4 and in Pre K. Her class has 12 children and 5 families are from Louisiana. I talked to one of the parents a few weeks ago. They remarked they missed Louisiana but are so much better off in Houston. They still have family in Louisiana but 2 of the relatives will be moving to Houston soon (in the burbs). She remarked once they saw a 5BR house with media room, study, and a pool for $325K and higher paying job with excellent schools they were sold. Were reluctant to move for years until they actually came for a visit. Then you have car insurance is 1/2 and electric, etc..We save $403/month on car insurance and electric alone when moved to Houston.

Considering I am in oil and gas, once I decide to actually settle down and not always be on the road, I am probably moving to TX.

What's the next step in the formation of St. George process? Vote? Or Together BTR start pulling businesses out of the area and removing signatures?
Posted on 10/24/18 at 5:02 pm to Mudminnow
If the signatures are validated than it will go to a vote to incorporate. Only those in the area get to vote on incorporation.

In incorporated, however, then they have to have a seperate vote to form an independent school district, which is either a statewide vote or a vote in the legislature, I'm not sure. Either way, the vote to make the independent school district is far more of a long shot than getting a vote to incorporate. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Every time Broome & her troop of monkeys try to do something to further their cause, it backfires and they embarrass themselves and cause more harm than good. No sane individual would want anything to do with that low-rent, disorganized, autocratic One BTR group.

As long as Texas stays red, it will continue, If they ever flood enough immigrants to the area, and it turns slightly Blue, that shite will change.
California creates a ton of shite for this country, especially in agriculture, but the state is trillions in debt, and will never be able to pay off the pension debt.
It only takes a decade of shite politicians and policies for it 2 go down hill. Illinois learned the hard way. It now writes iou's for iou's. They will Never be able to pay their debts, especially to the pensions that Politicians and Union heads pushed to asinine numbers.
Texas has to stay Red to continue being a economic juggernaut.

I know an ISD can't form without the city. However, forming the ISD, I thought was one of the main goals. Seems like a daunting task just for a slim chance of getting an ISD.
I guess it'll be several years after an ISD is formed before people start pulling their kids out of private.
Posted on 10/25/18 at 1:06 pm to Mudminnow
Yes, it will take a decade to really get the ISD going.
Overnite folks aren't taking their kids out of CHS, Dunham, Parkview and the others. The ISD will have to earn some business.

Biggest concern with all the libs coming to tx. toyota snuck in a few lib ways when they came in. Collin county is a sleeping concern.
TX goes purple/blue then the country is going down why the dems are hitting it hard now. In 20/21 time frame the new congress #s come out, and TX will have a lot more reps. Dems are prepping for that no doubt.
Sadly sounds that the houston area is gonna have to be the conservative strong hold, since it seems many are coming from other southern states (ie LA), but NTX is getting a lot of the west coast and yankees.
Unless something major changes TX going back to a permanent blue is a high probability by 2030.

165 new people are moving to Houston each and every day. Although many or from Louisiana, there are many coming from all over the world. I believe its the most ethnic diverse city in the country now.
Not sure how it can be a red stronghold for much longer. I have seen a number of Beto signs. However, with the large Mexican population many have been angered about Trumps remarks and the border wall. But maybe a different candidate and will go back to a more solid red.

They are definitely quicker to clear the road after a traffic accident. Here in Baton Rouge it seems like every desk rider in BRPD has to show up and give their blessing before the road is reopened.

Commute time is a big downfall for Houston but it seems to be the Houston way. Live out in the burbs in a nice home and save money left and right with great schools, but commute 30-45 minutes each way to work.
