While just 23 residents have withdrawn their names from the St. George incorporation petition, another 97 residents have added their signatures to the petition, says East Baton Rouge Parish Registrar of Voters Steve Raborn.

Residents were allowed to add or remove their names within five business days of the petition being submitted, according to a state law passed in 2016. That five-day period ended Monday for the St. George petition, which was submitted Oct. 15.

At the time, St. George organizers said they had more than 14,500 signatures, which is greater than the nearly 13,000 required to bring their incorporation request to a vote.

The signatures, however, must first be certified by the registrar’s office before the measure can be put before voters in the proposed city.

Opposition groups held a “Withdraw Day” on Oct. 20, giving those who signed the petition for a new city a chance to remove their names.

St. George opponents also sent out a text blitz over the weekend to residents of the proposed city, reminding them that Monday was the deadline if they wanted to remove their names from the petition.

Opposition groups purchased voter roll information for the entire district from Louisiana Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin’s office, including cell phone numbers of most registered voters, which is how the group was able to send out its text blast Saturday morning.

Get fricked, OneBR/TogetherBR/Better Together.

Baton Rouge Business Report

St. George posted on Facebook that Better Together set up a withdrawal station on school property and EBRSO ran them off for not having permission.

As a non Louisiana outsider, I don’t get the big deal

Why are so many non- St George residents so adamant that they not be allowed to form own city?

This should come to a vote. If the opposition wants to stop it, make an argument that the voters will respond to.

But let the voters decide.

This is a fully unincorporated area in East Baton Rouge Parish and it not part of the city Baton Rouge. Perhaps the city of Baton Rouge should try to "sell" an annexation to those residents to stop this?

Because liberals want everyone to be miserable with them.

I live in Dallas so I could be wrong, but these non-St. George residents want the nicer part of Baton Rouge (St. George) to keep paying their taxes to the poorer areas of the city.

From what I understand, St. George would be the more affluent area of the city and losing it would see a large amount of tax dollars fly away.

OneBr plan, was to get a shite load of people to sign it, then recant their signature and frick the st.g people.

except the onebr tards got played like fools by those they thought were on their side.

I follow both, because of this forum, and it was clear, they were hoping they had enough people to force the whole thing to go to the shitters. But people they thought were allies stuck it up 1br arse, LOL.

Why is the government facilitating spamming people's phones?

One question:

Who will vote for this? I've seen 3 answers on this:

1. Only those in the area that would be st.George

2. Everyone in the County that st.g is in.

3. Everyone state wide

Believe only residents in the area vote on it becoming its own town but the entire state votes on them getting their own ISD.

I hope St. George passes just to see how both BR and St. George operate from a fiscal standpoint. I think BR is overplaying the importance of St. George, but St. George is underestimating what they'll pay/receive for their taxes. It's interesting to say the least.
