I would suggest any animal byproduct at all is not really a sacrifice. I never understood how eating catfish on Friday was some sacrifice. It’s my favorite dish.

Really? Because a priest that is a family friend told us that "fasting" which is to be done on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday means one full meal and two smaller meals that together would not exceed one full meal.

Abstinence which is to be followed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays during lent is refraining from eating the flesh and organs of mammals and fowl.

Fasting is only for those between the ages of 18 and 59, Abstinence is only for those older than 14 years old.

Right, that's what I meant in my original post. One meal + 2 snacks that don't equal a meal, not an either/or thing

Not just Catholics...

Meh. Don’t think not eating meat on certain days of the week during a segment of the year will make the world a better place or have any impact

Our priest went over the guidelines this morning at mass. Fasting means 1 meal, and you can have 2 smaller snacks that together don't equal a full meal.

That’s not at all what fasting means, but it’s better than what the OP describes at least

People should go volunteer or help a neighbor in need. Do some actual good in line with Jesus' teaching rather than some antiquated Old Testament nonsense

You libs always distort Jesus’ teachings. He never told us to help those that don’t help themselves or to let in Mexicans

When the blind bums came up to him he made them dig around in the dirt to find his spit to heal them and he made the cripples climb through a hole in the roof

Also he told us to buy guns. “If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.”

Serious question: Why is fish/seafood exempt? Never made sense to me.

How about if I limit myself to 5 lbs of crawfish instead of 10?

And only a couple beers instead of 10?

It’s a partial fasting.

Because people aren’t serious about actually abstaining from anything.

Lol, that shite is at the bottom of the list of things that are embarrassing for the Catholic Church.

I think this is meant to be derogatory to Catholics, but it is a true statement anyway.

Catholics all think they’re the original Christians but the Bible clearly says that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist into the Baptist faith
