Annual July 4th "My dog is bat shite crazy during fireworks" Thread

We have four golden retreivers and our oldest male is scared to the death of fireworks and as soon as he hears them he starts shaking uncontrollably. We will start the drugs as soon as I get home from work and then when the neighborhood fireworks start its off for an hour car ride along the Atlantic Ocean out here.
BTW the other three goldens don't give two shits about fireworks going off.
Who else out there is making preparations for today?

I’m going to drug the shite out of my dogs.

One of mine has been taking Trazadone since Thursday in prep for today. The others are ok. I will add melatonin to the meds to knock her out, if needed. She’s adopted so not sure of her past, but booms freak her out. She would be one to have a heart attack. Shep mix.

1st year, my now 3 YO Aussie was curious and wanted to go outside to watch. He sat down and watched a little while, gave me his "I'm bored now, it's bedtime, can we go back inside?" look and that was it.
Last year he was mildly interested again. Oddly, he doesn't like loud noises that are close to him, like something falling in the house, but he could care less about fireworks.
My old Aussie that passed at 14 a few years ago wasn't bothered by them until she also got scared of thunderstorms in her old age. I think it was a combo of one really bad storm that passed by and losing her eyesight.

After seeing some of the stupid shite humans do with fireworks my dog just didn’t want to be outside around fireworks. (In some ways. I consider him more intelligent than some humans). He’s going deaf now so now he DGAF about fireworks.

Stella doesn't really care.
Beaux gets scared and wants to be comforted.
I get crazy.

Always remember, people love fireworks. You may not like that but lots of people like them.
And no one is gonna change their lives for someone’s pet to not be scared.

I don't dislike fireworks and I totally get people enjoying them as I do. Just seeing what preparations people are doing for their pets.

My 6-year old Havanese-Maltese-Poodle mix is terrified of fireworks, thunder, rain, etc.
He'll be drugged to high heaven around 6 o'clock.
My two miniature Schnauzers could give less than a frick.

My dog doesn’t give a shite until you’re right up on them. We were walking around the hood last night and she didn’t flinch. We walked up within about 40 feet of mortars and that’s when she started getting nervous. One wasn’t a problem. When they got to the 20+ mortar fireworks she was pulling

My dogs have been around too many gunshots to care about fireworks.

I'm not saying it's effective. I was just answering your question honestly on how I'm prepping for this evening.

My dogs have never given a shite until last year we brought them to a fireworks show and something switched in their brains. Now they hate all loud booms. We’re going to put them in our bedroom tonight with sound machine and TV on. Maybe some Benadryl.

I have a Marine Malinois, so she's been around gunfire. She'll lift her big arse head to discern whether a loud noise is a threat, conclude it is not, and just slam her head back down and go back to resting.
