Announcement at Restaurant re: someones last meal alive

I was just eating lunch at a restaurant where they stopped everything that was going on and announced to the entire restaurant that a man was having his last meal with his family.
Then proceeded to play all four verses of amazing grace on the loud speakers.
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? it was bizarre.
