Seems to me that it is perhaps racist to think this is racist.
Everyone has lips. Some are big.
To make this about race seems pretty racist.
The more important point is context of respect of this man and any pattern thereof. Gruden never imparted racist behavior to me.

Back on topic, it would be stupid to punish Gruden for something *vaguely* racist he said 10 years ago in a private email. In all reality it wasn't even racist, he was describing a physical feature of one individual and didn't mention race at all.
It's not like he said "all black people have lips the size of Michelin tires" or called them all dumb, he was talking bad about an individual person.
Conversely, if I compliment an individual black OR white person is that assumed to mean I'm talking about the whole race, or even bringing race into it at all? No. So why is saying something negative about one person's appearance considered racist?
