Going by when Allen was President at Washington & Gruden worked at ESPN it most likely occurred between 2014 & early 2018 which also would have been when his brother was head coach at Washington. It’s possible that he may have had a relationship and conversations with the team President outside of his ESPN analyst job during that time. Since quote in OP is behind a pay wall its hard to get context including whether it was using ESPN work email. Since neither of the Grudens or Allen work at same jobs it’s also strange it’s coming out now. I think Bruce Allen & Jay Gruden were fired after 2019 season, and John Gruden left ESPN to coach the Raiders in Jan 2018.
It’s wasting time and resources for NFL to investigate something this far back and while he wasn’t employed by the NFL especially when factually correct for the specific person he referenced. Black players probably joked about his lips.
