This could work if they got a company like Brightline to run it. I used Brightline to commute from central miami to west palm beach for my last few months of medical school rotations. Of course there will need to be more than one round trip per day too. However, with them picking Amtrak it will end up being a disaster because Amtrak’s on time performance is terrible. However maybe if they have efficient shuttle services between lsu and the downtown station this will help with traffic on gamedays.

You can’t compare a highway where over a 100,000 vehicles use with a train that carries what a few hundred people a day and be serious!

There are good reasons not to do both. Millions of reasons.

There are nimrods here in the BR area who really believe that by having this train service it will lower pollution and the amount of co2 being farted into the atmosphere.

I don’t think people really believe this….it’s the novelty of it.
BTW - which rail line out of Baton Rouge will Amtrak use ?

The one that runs alongside Perkins. Last stop b/w 14th and 15th near Government, south stop b/w Essen and Bluebonnet on the medical district side.

The price of poker appears to be going up from the original 10-15 dollars per ticket to 19-25 dollars or higher for coach. If they have a business class it would be more.

They are also considering an option to extend the service to Mobile from BR via NO. BRBR

This may set a record for the least profitable project ever enacted by Amtrak.

This is bound to be a colossal failure.

They should put up a live stream of this wildlife documentary style for all the fascinating behavior that will be on display.

So I have hail an Uber and pay for a trip to downtown BR. Get on a train and take a 2+ hour ride to somewhere NO. Hail a second Uber to do my business.

Then reverse that whole process to go home?

Uber

Uber
Train
Uber

or...Just drive my own vehicle? That is a lot of expense to be inconvenienced mightily.

This guy gets it.

The only modification I would make is that the Greyhound bus station does make sense to use as the hub but they are not politically connected and BRAF does not own it so that's not where the station would be. It would be adjacent to some buildings owned by the for-profit arm of BRAF, which may be a safer area. I dont know which one but that's how Louisiana works.

The problem with this route is it’s useless unless it runs at times that people actually need it. Commuters need a train that runs in the morning to NOLA from BR and back in time for dinner.

Partiers need a train that leaves NOLA late at night and gets into BR in the early morning.

LSU and Saints fans need multiple trains to accommodate the different time slots.

MSY travelers similarly need regular trains to connect them with the CBD or ferry them back to BR.

Once you get to BR, you need a reliable transportation network to get people from the electric depot to LSU, the River Center, and the Capital.

The Mobile one could be useful if they incorporate some sort of shuttle service that takes people from the train station down to the hotels around Gulf Shores. I could see that actually being a really useful option for people.
