Live in New Orleans. There are quite a few Resy restaurants we frequent ($400). Use both Uber One ($120) and the Uber cash ($200). Wife and I use Clear for travel ($200). She also shops at Lululemon ($300) and Saks ($100). We have a couple of the streaming services ($300). So that comes out to $1650/year. I don't always use the Airline ($200) or Hotel ($600) since it's for incidentals or select hotels. Some years I'll use it if we do a "splurge" trip.

Sure if we didn't have the card we probably wouldn't use Uber One, Clear, or shop at Saks or Lululemon. But would probably still eat at enough Resy restaurants ($400) and use the Uber Cash ($200) and Digital Streaming ($300) that would make it worth it.

They already rolled back some perks recently but yeah their AF is highly competitive at the moment compared to CSR and Amex Platinum.

AmEx has introduced a pay over time feature on their charge cards but you have to opt into it.

In the app on my platinum I have a statement balance and minimum payment due. I pay it off in full every 2 weeks, but I’m fairly certain I could keep a balance on this thing without opting into it.

Yeah, but doesn't AmEx make you pay for those additional persons at lounges now?

If not, then they just changed this within the past 6 months. I definitely carried a balance on mine on occasion when I had it.

Yes they do. $50 per guest. 2 free guests if you spend $75k per year.

For everyone that currently has the card, reminder the q3 credits for lululemon and resy expire on Sept 30. Make sure to enroll in those benefits in your account before actually paying.

It depends on the Lounge. The regular Priority Pass lounges allow up to two complimentary guests. Most of the lounges I visit while traveling are Priority Pass ones, and they normally all have full bars. Food options are hit or miss, but I'm not usually there to eat.

Correct. AMEX has a Pay Over Time feature that most are automatically enrolled in and a Plan It feature that is specific to certain purchases which allows you to pay a set fee than the otherwise higher APR you'd get charged. That said, both features are subject to AMEX allowing/revoking per account based on credit history.

Oof.

quote:

Up to $200 annual Oura Ring (hardware only; not for memberships)
Up to $100 quarterly for U.S. Resy restaurants
Up to $120 for Uber One membership (subject to auto-renewal)

Hotel credit when booked through AMEX (select hotels)
Up to $300 biannually (every six months), was $200 annually

Digital entertainment credit
Up to $25 monthly, was $20 monthly (Paramount+, YouTube Premium and YouTube TV added)

Oh... I mean yeah.

With walmart plus, disney crap, youtube, insurance on everything, it continues to be worth it. Barely. This way I'll use the lululemon credit and saks credit get the wife gifts every other month.

Real benefit is when I bought my truck, everything was negotiated ahead of time. To the penny. Rate disclosed as well. Got to tennessee, and suddenly the rate changed.

I didn't complain, negotiate, or argue. I put the entire truck on ny card and oeft. They tried to charge a fee, and I told the sales manager I was leaving. He was the one to swipe the card.

Amex sent through an offer while I was driving home offering 0% on any ten transactions if financed for 24 months.

Clicked. Done.

This is an easy back pocket FU to get out of annoying situations.

The lounges are completely useless now. I think this is one of the reasons for increasing the fee. They need people to drop out.

I’m staying in if less people are in lounges. I break even because I travel enough to get the credits. Even if I don’t break even, it’s not worth the hassle to switch.

Correct, unlimited lounge access with the annual spend met. Easy to meet and exceed the spending limit with business expenses, especially for those who frequently travel. Lounges make all the difference when traveling domestic or international.

Business plat nerfed the 35% back on flights with your selected airline. I'm definitely dumping the business plat now

Pro tip, change your airline to united via chat, and buy 2 100 dollar travel bank credits. I do it damn near every year

Good to know! I somehow had it actually apply to flights last year when I bought a couple sub $100 tickets. Apparently that can also get it to trigger the credit but not always.

The fee is going up $200 but they are giving you $600 instead of $200 in hotel credits. That alone is worth the upcharge if you stay at a hotel anytime during the year. Along with the quarterly Resy credit of $100. That's another $400 if you eat at a Resy restaurant. To me this is well worth the $200 fee increase. I get $800 of value for $200. Plus my girlfriend will use the $300 from Lululemon.
