American Heart Association is worthless
They were started by big food. I read something about when a company came out with Crisco they wanted to discredit butter and bacon grease so they help get the AHA started and they foretold of the ills of animal fats.

The logic being that if junk food is not allowed by SNAP, the people eligible would rather just go hungry than chance eating healthier foods?
Dr Now (of tv show 600 pounders) told one of them that they were not going to become malnourished. That they had already eaten the food from 4 years in the future.

AHA is funded by the likes of those big food companies. So of course they are going to do their bidding. Most of what comes out of the AHA is lobbying in benefit of the Pepsico, General Mills, ect. Once we all learn these things, our country will be a much healthier place

The only drawback is every recipient will now have two carts at the checkout, one to ring up as SNAP eligible and one to ring up and pay cash for. Lines at the grocery store are going to absolutely suck.
You think they’ll bring two carts?
Bless your heart.
Generally the system does it for the cashier though. They ring up everything then pay for the SNAP eligible stuff and leave a balance on the register for the non eligible.

The AHA is just another worthless NGO. frick ‘em!

They are bought and paid for by special interest groups I'm sure.

And ground beef and chicken can be stretched. SNAP is supplemental. Not sole. They are free to buy junk with their money. Most of them whip it right out to pay for smokes and alcohol. They can use it for their junk, too.

Good. People should eat healthy but as long as it’s food, people should be allowed to buy whatever the frick they want.

That is surprising. My doctor told me to eliminate junk food saying that it is bad for the heart and blood pressure.

I’d love to know the average BMI of the pissed off people in this thread

If you are using welfare benefits, supported by taxation, society itself should have a say in what it can be spent on.

SNAP is corporate welfare.

ground beef and vegetables, I bet you're close to your daily dollar amount on SNAP.
That's less than $10, and for grass fed beef at H-E-B.

where the only store within a 20 minute drive is a family dollar and there is no public transportation. I am all for restriction but some effort has to be made to increase better options.
Honest question: you don’t think making healthy items free to throw in the basket and chips expensive will encourage stores to carry a few more healthy items that could be shoved in at no cost to the consumer?

Are you suggesting that people should just eat candy and soda because other foods also have a lot of calories?

Why? Because the AHA takes money from Kellogg’s & Pepsi, whose profits would tank if it passed.
And this is exactly how our country is ran. Its almost like a cartel. They push shite that is not at all good for people's health and it all comes back to profit.
I am all for making money, but not by depending on the government to make/keep laws that will keep people buying certain products. These companies are depending on welfare as well.

I may not care for these programs but they benefit companies who employ people and farmers who supply the food. It’s all a big chain that keeps things flowing. Cutting out programs don’t just stymie those receiving benefits but hurt the economy and producers when we look at the big picture. Cutting out aid to other countries hurts producers, especially farmers, as well. Farmers have been taking a big hit lately due to losing their labor and no this.
So, in essence you’re for subsidizing the leeches of society and subsidizing the farmers. What about those of us who the government takes half our income that pays for all this subsidizing? What exactly do we get out of this deal?
