It sounds like it's like Spotify Free without the ads.

quote:

Amazon today announced a new benefit for its Prime members which could lure some subscribers away from other music services, like Apple Music or Spotify. The company said it will now offer Prime subscribers a full music catalog with 100 million songs, instead of the previously more limited selection of just 2 million songs, and will make most of the top podcasts on its service available without ads. In addition, the Amazon Music app is getting a revamp, which includes a new “Podcast Previews” feature that will allow customers to listen to short clips as a way to discover new podcasts they may like.

The move is a direct shot at streaming music competitors, especially Spotify, which has been moving into the podcasts market as a means of generating additional revenue. But Spotify’s paying subscriber base is growing frustrated with the fact that they still have to listen to podcast ads, despite paying for the service. Amazon Music’s promise of ad-free podcasts along with a full music catalog could make for a compelling alternative, the retail giant hopes.

Smart move on their part. I think that will drive even more subscribers to Prime.

I use Prime Music because I am cheap and don't really listen to music that often, so good for me.

I used Amazon music over Spotify because I could listen to the available songs I liked as much as I wanted and could skip songs freely too.

Looks like they took that away. Can't scan through a song, replay it or skip more than a few before it stops you.

Disappointing from my perspective

Yep, all albums and Playlist are now set on shuffle. Prompts you to sign up for the unlimited to do the same thing I could do yesteday...

Is Amazon going to limit one device streaming at a time?

I've been using Prime Music forever. All of the music I listen to is there.

i hate music services like that. I like actual real sounding fm radio stations and there are a few out there that are really good

Hmm, that may lure me back to Prime. I canceled it because I was tired of the music split and Amazon in general.

I've got prime.

Will I have to pay extra for this or is it already included?

I saw the notification but didn't realize this is what they were doing.

Yeah I listen to it a lot, too. Huge library for a service I'd be paying for anyway.

I texted Steve Meve a screen shot when I was listening to Scarlet Begonias last week (when it was like 75 and sunny)

Just tried it and the title is misleading. You don’t actually have on demand access to songs that were previously on unlimited. If you select a song it “shuffles” to a similar song.

so they are going back to what Prime Music was the first couple of years.

EDIT: nevermind. I see they still require unlimited.

That sounds great and all, until you realize just how much they've been holding back from customers for so long now. 2 million to 100 million is a pretty fricking huge difference.

Is this for all songs?

So they don't have playlists or let you play albums?

If the song was previously only available on Unlimited you still can’t play the same song on demand. It creates a shuffle list of similar songs and that song may come on later. I don’t believe you can create a playlist of individual songs if those songs are in unlimited only.

It isn’t Spotify.

ETA: it does the shuffle bullshite for ALL songs. No songs are on demand anymore. Worthless.

Who the hell wants that from something they are paying for?
