Starting pay at their distribution centers is like $14/hr. There will be people lining up to get hired. However I'm sure in a few years robots will be doing most of the pulling.

They also have great benefits.

You can work like at least 20 hours a week I think and still qualify for insurance that will cover IVF and other fertility treatments. My fertility doctor said they cover 3 rounds of IVF (one round costs about 20k).

Most company health insurances don’t cover IVF(I work in a hospital and mine doesn’t cover a single penny of IVF)...Amazon does.

Sounds like it's not a done deal but it makes sense. They were already looking to build a new facility a mile up the road. Not nearly this big though.

It could be JBE trying to pump sunshine into his economic development shortcomings before the race.

But it’s excellent news if it’s true. And that’s an ideal site for a large DC being at the intersection of two major highways and near I-10 and I-12.

Cortana was at one time the largest retail mall in Baton Rouge and it got put out of business at least partially due to competition from online retailers.

Wrong. Culcha destroyed Cortana

I remember they were supposed to open here, but what happened with that?

Amazon must not know how bad traffic is every day from Florida Boulevard down to I-12 and from Florida Boulevard up to I-110.

This is great news for the city. Props to all involved, even if it’s our shitty mayor and governor.

In part that was because most white people departed for Mall of LA in 1997-1998.

By the end, all that was left was sneakers and baby clothes.

Ten to one our Mayor and her cronies frick this up though. Remember BucEes?

Tell us how the Mayor's office screwed up Bucee's? I heard it was actually the owner of the property and the 2016 flood that killed that deal, and Kip Holden was the mayor then.

But just like anytime something good happens to BR, people here will find a way to shite on it.

Exactly. This is great news for BR and the Cortana Mall area, but people love to complain. Remember how happy AOC and Elizabeth Warren were when the Amazon plant didn't locate to Ocasio-Cortez's district?

I would imagine Amazon can afford good security.

Airline by Costco. They were planning to build a new building right around there but I'm sure it would have been far more expensive per sf ft than Cortana if this goes through.

LOL, the governor helps to bring an Amazon distribution center here and you complain that it might get him votes? What the hell would you prefer he do?

This reminds me of the guy who called Hanagriff to complain about Miles and said "the worst thing that could happen is Miles would win another championship because then we will be stuck with him longer."
I’d reckon these jobs, if they materialize, would be in spite of JBE’s policies.

Maybe the mayor will set St George free with another multi-billion dollar corporation to bleed dry.

No one hates success quite like Louisianians. What a sad, pathetic thread.
