but I just want to know how they plan on turning that thing into a distribution center.

It's a mall, so the storefronts and whatnot are not designed to be load bearing so they can build to suit. If you ever find yourself in an old mall like that, look around and you'll likely see cleverly disguised pillars everywhere, which really support the building. You just knock all that extra shite down and leave the pillars, and the entire mall is likely to be one large open space with maybe the anchor stores at the ends separated by load bearing walls.

If you look at the Cortana from overhead, you can kind of imagine how they can take the northeast and northwest sides of the building opposite the main entrance and just turn that wall into nothing but loading bays, using the parking lots on that side for trailer and truck parking. The main entrance remains the main entrance to the building and the parking lot on that side is employee parking.

It's a decent idea if they can retrofit that building cheaper than building a new one.

PROTIP: 1,000,000 square foot buildings are NOT cheap to build, but we shall see what they do.

Starting pay at their distribution centers is like $14/hr. There will be people lining up to get hired. However I'm sure in a few years robots will be doing most of the pulling.

Other than their surge during the holidays when they first came to BR and were hiring random people off the street they've been fine in my experience.

The article yesterday about Cortana kicking out their last two tenants said the property owners tried to sell it last year for $4,000,000 and couldn't find a buyer.

I would think that much real estate with all of that parking for an Amazon distribution center would be a solid deal for $4,000,000 even if they have to do a couple of million dollars worth of renovations.

So you think the flood was the Mayor's fault?

Knowing the way Amazon spends money, they may just bulldoze the damn thing and start over. They may view the large property as a better asset than the shitty old building. I'm sure all their systems are designed for their custom-built centers.

They are going to likely knock down everything over there and start over.

It's a huge space at a great intersection. And they probably are going to get it for 3-4 million plus demolition costs.

I'd be surprised to see that the mall owner is kicking everyone out without a confirmed sale, unless they are losing more money having tenants than they would be if it was empty.

You give too much credit to the mayor. Buccees bailed bc of the risk associated with building here. Not anything the mayor did/didn't do. You all just try too hard at times to bring up St George and the mayor.

A good first move would be to firebomb the surrounding area before starting construction.

For everyone bitching about how the mayor will frick this up and how bad the surrounding area is etc etc.

This is certainly positive news for B R and something that will create new jobs.
Also a good way to repurpose a property that most had no idea what to do with.

LOL, the governor helps to bring an Amazon distribution center here and you complain that it might get him votes? What the hell would you prefer he do?

This reminds me of the guy who called Hanagriff to complain about Miles and said "the worst thing that could happen is Miles would win another championship because then we will be stuck with him longer."

I really don't think the infrastructure around the mall could handle the influx of traffic. That's a lot of 18 wheelers in and out at all times of the day. Traffic on airline between cortana and the airport or I12 is already bad enough.
