No shite. People constantly complain about educational achievement in Louisiana. The state shows some really positive gains in a critical area, and the people want to beat Louisiana to death with the trophy.

The real story here that people should be in prison for closing all the schools for COVID.
I don't know, seems staying away from our schools actually helped the kids more than being in the school.

This board can’t handle positive news about Louisiana. This is really good for the overall education community in our state and comes on some positive economic news recently.
It’s very good news but don’t lie.
No need to church it up.

Richard Nelson poured a lot of time into this. His bills are very instrumental in these gains.

Is this DIBELS related? I’ve seen parents & teachers bitching up a storm over DIBELS testing.

Well when democrats are in charge, they are more hell bent on murdering children then seeing them succeed.

This should be celebrated.

Ostensibly, the improvements in reading scores should lead to improvements in other scores down the road.
We'll see if it carries through, but this definitely a good thing in general.

Peggy Carr, Commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics, which administers the test, held up Louisiana’s reading policies as a model for other states. The state’s gains show there are “no excuses” for other states struggling to help students recover from pandemic learning loss, she said in a call with reporters on Tuesday.

If they can't read a worded math problem, then they can't do the math problem either.

Students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students in Louisiana also improved their reading and math scores, making greater gains than their peers nationally.
Christy Hovanetz, senior policy fellow for ExcelinEd, a national education policy nonprofit, credited Louisiana’s reading gains to the state’s “back-to-basics approach” to literacy.

Seriously, this is great news. Mississippi also used to be dead last in the country in education and now it’s in the middle of the pack in less than a decade. That’s extremely impressive for both MS and LA.

That’s real progress.
It is and I never thought I would see that.

Why try to minimize it?
I haven't seen anyone try to minimize that. Mostly because that was nowhere to be found in the OP. Add it and you will get less pushback. The reason you are getting some now is that it is entirely conceivable that Louisiana could have the largest jump in 4th-grade reading and still be in the bottom 5-10. So many folks have used statistical values in a way to paint a picture that ends up being a mirage due to the specific stats they used.

This is primarily due to Catholic School enrollment aka private school enrollment as well as home schooling.
