Not the a-hole. You were more patient than I would have been. Please tell me you told the doctor his receptionist’s attitude and office staffs’ ineptitude cost him a patient.

No, bot can probably look forward to more admin screw ups there. If you stay with that doctor then yes.
Posted on 7/16/26 at 3:48 pm to jlovel7
i need the eye doctor after reading that wall of text.
Posted on 7/16/26 at 3:48 pm to jlovel7
The only time I ever get collections is from hospitals. Perfect credit score but for some reason it happens.
Posted on 7/16/26 at 3:48 pm to jlovel7
NTA, but not without blame either. The whole mess was a direct result of something very simple that you did not do.

Just curious, did you interrupt the receptionists while they were playing on their phone?
Posted on 7/16/26 at 3:53 pm to jlovel7
No. And you should have told your doctor about the attitude they gave you at the receptionist desk. Pretty sure he/she would not be too keen on them telling patients to hit the bricks.

Too long! So, the answer is Yes.

Dr’s offices are shite.I think they don’t pay them enough to get quality employees.
My neighbor has skin cancer issues on face and bald head.Goes for checkups every 6 months, about once a year they remove a lesion.
He had one removed and next checkup he asked about the biopsy, they never called about it so he assumed it was negative.
Girl looks it up and says “Oh,it came back melanoma”.This was several months later.
Someone was supposed to call him about it but never did.
When I was a nurse I would get severely pissed off when I had to call a Dr.about a pt.They would transfer me to the wrong Dr,get put on hold for inordinate amt of time, get hung up on .

Trust me, you don’t want incompetent front office folks dealing with billing/appointments and they’ve demonstrated they suck on a lot of levels.
can definitely attest this shite recently over 2 kids with wisdom teeth being pulled, us making sure the surgeon we scheduled with was in-network, then the office people switching them both a new surgeon and we have $720 payment out the gate. after a few phone calls to them, then the office manager, we now are seeing the correct surgeon, who's up-front out of cost was $150 each child, so we got a credit of $420 to the balance we know we would eventually have to pay after dental & health policies pay out.

I definitely would have had a conversation with the doctor during the appointment about their attitudes, especially about that comment about them not missing you as a patient.

Nah.
How many people move and remember to update addresses with everyone they deal with before dealing with them again? That’s not a reasonable expectation.
They may not have had his address but they had his phone number. Probably collected it on eight different forms. How about picking up the phone and talking to a customer you’ve served before flinging them over to Tony with Apex Receivables over a damn copay like he’s some degenerate.
Reasonable people may disagree but I put 0% of this on the OP.

Isn't there a single forwarding document you provide to the post office that forwards all of your new mail to your new address?
Eta: yep. LINK

Am I the a-hole here?
Posted on 7/16/26 at 4:08 pm to Dadren
Right? I moved a couple months ago. Calling my eye doctor to notify him of my change of address was nowhere on my list of important shite to do.
Posted on 7/16/26 at 4:10 pm to jlovel7
I would immediately inform the head doctor / owner about what has transpired and tell him you are considering taking your business elsewhere because of how rudely you were treated.

Let them take you to collections then don’t pay.
Medical collections don’t count as much against you like the used to.
After all we all identify and undocumented aliens when visiting healthcare

wife and I are frequent attendees to many offices and about half of them are totally dysfunctional. It's bad enough the medicare billing adds a bit extra to the providers that participate in customer satisfaction follow up surveys. Show up early, smile a lot and verify what the doc is telling you by running the result past chatgpt.

No.
And I would find another eye doctor.
Posted on 7/16/26 at 4:57 pm to jlovel7
This is all bullshite. Doctors (drug dealers) don’t send to collections. Trust me, walk on the bill everytime until they fix our healthcare system.
