If the tickets were for you, and you chose to take him on your own accord, you're in the clear. Well...I mean, you're not if your wife is pissed, but if that's your tickets, and you want to stay the entire game, then that's what you do, and you stick to your guns there IMO.
The only fuzzy part, like everyone else has pointed out, is no one knows what you're talking about with turning your phone off and walking up some stairs. Hiding from gramps is a bit odd, but you could have just flatly told him you were staying all game, and you could have even given him the keys and told him to go wait in the car for you.
