If looking for dress shoes, the Fifth Avenues are probably the best deal at $245 (Boulevards are same price but are blucher instead of balmoral)
The Patton's are a pretty good deal with a Dainite sole.

Allen Edmonds threads always brings out the people that say they’re no longer what they used to be and the people that say I have had a pair since 1998 and they have been re-soled.
I kinda don’t see the consumer enthusiasm of spending that much money for dress shoes this day and age versus 20 years ago.
Anyone else see or feel the same?

Meh, they don't really cost any more in the long run because you can get them resoled several times.
A good pair of dress shoes will last you 7-10 years. The $99 specials at the shoe station last me a year and have to be tossed.

I used to say this but have learned, take advantage of my years of wearing crappy uncomfortable shoes here, that you are 100X better off with one pair of really nice dress shoes than you are with five pair of $50 dress shoes. This is double true if you are the guy who wears them three or four times a year for weddings and funerals.
If you wear them every day, you should have multiple nice pairs. But the occasional wearer should buy one great pair, one nice suit and a really nice shirt.

I’ve got 12 to 15 pair of nice dress shoes that I wear 5 days a week. Not a fan of a cheap dress shoe.

Congratulations on being staggeringly wrong. I have a four year old pair of Carlyles that basically look like I just bought them. Not only can they be resoled over and over, but because the leather is properly tanned and dyed instead of what is functionally spray painted, they actually take a polish. Buying a good pair of dress shoes, a shoe shine kit, and a decent set of shoe trees is some of the best "smart money" a man can spend.

I'm still committed to buying good dress shoes that will last, I'm just less committed to buying them from AE.
I've bought several pairs from Rancourt (made in Maine) over the last couple of years.

Yup although I like the AE boots. Really comfortable.
