Ummmm, yeah, like a dozen times. One time they fricking ran over my luggage on the runway when I was doing my floating gig and had to replace my wardrobe (on their dime). Yeah, it happens. They found the others eventually, but its a relatively common. There's a reason there's often a line in lost baggage

I have found being way in the back there's usually room back there even if I am group 8 and they started checking bags for group 6.

I carry a bag that fits under the seat if need be, but take the overhead if it is there.

No, but now I have to go back 3 rows to get my bag because some a-hole sitting by the shitter is an inconsiderate dick

The people sitting against the bulkhead have no under seat storage, so they have to put everything in the overhead bin.

I fly every week and my laptop goes in the overhead bin unless I need it to work.

Your feelings don’t matter to me.

When I traveled I don’t remember having a choice most of the time about where to put my carry-on, because the bins were mostly full, if not completely full.

It got 100000000 times worse when airlines started charging for checked bags.

And the few times I remember boarding early, people threw their bags in the overhead bin at the front of the plane so they wouldn’t have to lug them to the back.

I only fly about 4 times a year but I used to check everything except a small briefcase with important work paperwork in it. That way less stuff to deal with in the terminal and overhead bins. BUT!...Then it happened! They lost my luggage due to a layover! Now I carry on everything I can. Sorry but I’m not getting stuck again with no luggage.

I hate people that have seats in the back five rows who put their stuff in the bins near the front.

I skip this step and check my bags..it's literally 25 bucks. It's hassle enough to have to check in and go through TSA. It's worth 25 dollars to check my bag. I've never waited more than 5 mins at a carosel for my bag to come out by the time I've gotten there either. Maybe I've been lucky...but it's never been an issue for me.

Exactly I get on last. Plane is always hot anyway. Plus you can crop dust everyone on your way back to economy seats.

Listen up. You purchase an airline ticket, you get access to the overhead bin. If I just have my laptop bag/briefcase, I am not shoving that thing under the seat in front of me and losing the ability to stretch out a little bit (in the already very tight space provided by the gracious air transporters) just because passengers with carry-ons think they have the right to kick briefcases of other paying customers to under the seat.

They valet your bag for you if not enough space. Not a big deal.

I get that you only get on a plane once every half decade. The people who do carry-ons tend to be people that work for 4 days and can easily fit their crap in a bag. Having to spend another 30 minutes in the airport can be a big deal, not to mention the chances of losing your crap by checking it. Sorry, but that time and peace of mind is worth it to me, so you hacks that only leave Louisiana twice a year for Florida and a bowl game can all go frick yourselves.

Wrong, I fly every other week for the past 20+ years. Check bag every time, put my briefcase in overhead, unless I need to do work on flight. I have had exactly one bag not make a connection, that I was without for about 12 hours.

Blame the assholes that put their suitcases that were specifically designed for the overhead, and yet crowd out purses, briefcases, jackets, and other small actual carry on items for which the overhead bins were meant.

FIFY.

This scenario: I'm at the back of the plane (I know, sorry for being poor) and I board late. I have no way of knowing if the overhead above my seat is open. But on my way down the aisle there is open space. What are the rules then?

What boarding group? Some boarding groups don't get overhead bin privileges now.

United basic economy guidelines

quote:

You are allowed one small personal item that fits under the seat in front of you, such as a shoulder bag, purse, laptop bag or other item that is 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm) or less. Mobility aids, assistive devices and medical devices including breast pumps are also permitted.
