I guess people aren't cooking as much as they used to.

My wife (no pics) works with 13 women (pics when available) and none of them cook. My wife asked 1 what they ate, she said either chicken nuggets heated in the toaster oven, a hamburger cooked on the foreman grill, a sandwich, or cereal and milk. If not that they go eat out. Bitches cant even cook a spaghetti. So yeah, people are eating out a lot more. Our family eats about once a week, mostly because we don't feel like cooking.

Too expensive to eat out and there's little to no differentiation

To hell with these Seattle restaurants. I've voluntarily been to one since i moved here. $20 for a pizza the size of a frisbee. No thanks. We go out to places for work lunches and i dont have to pay. But its ridiculous how overpriced it is. Went to some Mexican place last week and my 2 enchiladas with rice and beans was $19. I can make a whole casserole dish of enchiladas at home for less than that

No, I'm with you. I live in Spokane and maybe its because minimum wage in this state is over $10 an hour. Restaurants are expensive as hell up here. And honestly, if your meal isn't some memorable dining experience, it's just not worth it. Even fast casual places are going to set you back $12 and eating and some bland Applebee's or Olive Garden is going to be nearly $20.

I eat at a nice steakhouse once every few weeks but then brown bag or bring in leftovers. Not sure why you're getting grief on here for not wanting to spend $100 a week on overpriced, half-assed lunches.

My Casual Dining stock index is down 8.26% since Aug. 1 of this year.

Fast Food Index has fluctuated and is down 55 cents or .591%

Food Chain Index down 80 cents or 3.33%

Texas Fortune 500 Index is down 3 cents or .054%

Obviously casual dining restaurants are the one getting hurt the most. Fast food seems to be pretty strong, people are choosing to eat cheap dog-shite food or cook at home.

I'd wager that beer and alcohol sales are up and wine sales are down as well.

Blue Apron type services catering to nutrition-educated young professionals(who usually eat out most often) and fast healthy food(places like fresh junkies in BR are huge in big cities) are a big reason for slowing restaurant industry.

Pizza, enchiladas, Waffle House...you don't get it anyway.

You don't have to "rack up credit card debt" to enjoy a nice dinner.

in order to eat out you need to have extra money.

with areas increasing the min wage, it raises food costs, cutting into sustainability

Wife and I laugh about this all the time. $300 in groceries that probably last about as many meals as $300 will buy.

Excluding alcohol and higher end meals obviously.

If you are a smart grocery shopper, you will always come out ahead of the person that eats out every meal. Now im not talking about the dollar menu at McDonalds.

You laugh but going to the grocery is cheaper and that is not debatable

Without a doubt. You don't have Facebook but I often post 'broke arse bachelor' meals that usually cost about $10-15 in crock pot and makes about 6-8 healthier than restaurant meals.

I have 0 credit card debt hot shot, but I also very much enjoy a nice meal out. I've paid $20 for a pizza before at domenica and would go back in a second.

Well, that's just not true. Sounds like your wife can't cook for shite, and you are coming up with an excuse for being a beta and letting her arse get away with that shite.

Cheaper and healthier.

An argument can be made for both though. You can split meals at a restaurant or appetizers. Drink water. Then compare that to a Whole Foods shopper? Mistakes can be made on either side. But in the end you are probably right. Not long before you start going to better places, and getting beers or cocktails. One $100 meal or even a whole saturday shoots my argument to hell.

This. I can make a 2 lb pot of red beans and load it down with good sausage. I'll eat off of that for a week for maybe $12.
