I just got back from 4 days in Alex.
Had fun with family, went to park, open gifts, ate good food, etc.
Not sure what you were wanting to do the day after Christmas

We have to make a trip up soon, and the worst part is getting through BR.

We now have two options for Massaman Curry. Two!

The best thing I can say about Alexandria is you can be virtually anywhere in the state of Louisiana in under 3 hours.

Been there once, most depressing place Ive ever encountered

Worst thing about BR is it's impossible to get anywhere. Worst part about Elic is, there's nowhere to go!

How did I know you would be up in here ? The that was complaining about the females that live here has obviously never met any of my flavors of the week. Plenty of trouble to get into in Alex.......Trust me. BTW , you working today ?

I made the mistake of stopping in Alexandria for lunch one Sunday on the way home from Texas. Nothing is open in that shithole on Sunday.

My old per diem use to be $85 a day. I would eat at the hotel for breakfast and usually eat with my account for lunch(not counted towards per diem), which meant i had $85 to spend at dinner. You know how hard it is to spend $85 there. lol
It was $30 for all you can eat crawfish, so id get that, usually 3-4 beers, crawfish balls or gumbo, and dessert.

To those living in large cities, sure your area offers more restaurants, museums, etc. but really, how often do you visit them? I'm betting you eat at a handful of places in your city, rotating among them. At best, you have more selections of ethnic food, but do you eat at all of them? No. Same goes with bars. Just because you have them, doesn't mean you frequent them.
Museums? Nope, I wager you don't visit them.
Bigger city isn't always better, just means more people and more of the same thing on a larger scale.

It's centrally located to make fleeing easier.

If you have the ability to make friends and enjoy yourself you can have fun anywhere in the world. Alex is typical small/mid size America. Not going to have options like the big cities, but only a moron would go to a town with 50k people and compare it to towns four times the size.
It has a lot to do to enjoy yourself, but once again, the better spots or things to do are known by those that live here.
But complaining about Alex or Monroe or Lake Charles and what is available to do to have yourself entertained or complaining about lack of options is just fricking stupid. Akin to moving to Minnesota and bitching because it is cold.
Calling a town in America depressing that is NOT in Oklahoma is just stupid.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Oriental Wok. Only once have I ever eaten Chinese food that I liked as much as the Wok's Tiny Spicy Chicken and Crab/Cream cheese wontons. And that place was in NYC.
I don't even eat Chinese food in Baton Rouge. Would rather just wait until a trip home for some TSC.

quote:Speaking of, Alex has a great museum, a great zoo for a little town, enough decent local shops to buy nice clothes and shoes, enough good restaurants to have fun and go to. A few nice parks, great recreational parks for kids activities, great public golf, good local fishing, some of the best bike and hiking trails in the South....a man that gets bored is beyond hope.
