This. Hopefully people can finally stop pretending that Cuban cigars are something special.

I think dollar for dollar the less expensive Cubans are better. An $8-$10 Cuban is going to be IMO better than something similar in that price range. It won't be better than say a $30 Padron though and that Padron could stand up to a $30 Cuban as well.

Cuban rums are really not any different or better than other Caribbean rums.

Cubans still make the world's best cigars. They are just making them in the Dominican republic, Nicaragua, etc
It will take many years for Cuban leaves to be ready to make premium cigars again.

Sure there are other cigars that are just as good or better as some of the Cuban cigars but it's nice to have options!

This thread makes me want a cigar. What's the best cigar I can get for $10 and where can I get it?

Oh wow. I wonder why it took so long to get to LA.
Because the demand for shitty beer was being met until recently, I guess.

I can definitely see getting excited about it back when AL/MS/LA were all bereft of good beer options.
But seems kind of a strange thing to pick up steam with all the good choices y'all have now.

Agreed. Give me a good Dominican Maduro cigar over a Cuban any day.

So will there be a tax for certain amounts, like other countries, or is obama still giving away free shite?

What's wrong with Cuban leaves? There was no explanation.
It's a saying among us aficionados Just kidding, I'm not really that stuck up.
When the Castros took power, they seized land and money from the richest families in the country including the cigar families. These families escaped Cuba and took their seeds with them. They found land in other parts of the world that was hospitable to their seeds. Thus Cubans still make the best cigars just not in Cuba.
Cigars are of course still made in Cuba, but the land is owned by the government. The people working the land are basically gov't slaves. Furthermore, the most knowledgeable Cubans are gone. So, you have sub par labor, on the broke-arse gov't's dime, with second or third tier cigar masters.
Last, the Castros are still in power. The top cigar makers are not migrating back just, because the USA is lifting the embargo. Massive gov't changes will have to happen in Cuba before the big families return. Then, they will need a few year to tend to the land, grow the leaves, cure them, age them, THEN make the cigars, which will need a few years of aging.
It will be 20 years or more before Cuban cigars become what they once were if they ever do.

So, does this open up importation through local distributors?
