Police in Georgia are asking for the public’s help identifying a Walmart shopper who allegedly picked up $30 another customer dropped and kept the cash.
The Albany Police Department shared an image of the unidentified person on Facebook, saying the incident happened at the Walmart located at 2586 N. Slappey Blvd. in Albany, Georgia.
According to police, another shopper dropped $30 on the ground while inside the store. The person pictured then allegedly picked up the money but did not hand it over to Walmart employees.
“The Albany Police Department would like the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect in the photo,” the department said in a post on August 19.
Police added: “An individual dropped $30.00 on the ground while shopping. This individual picked up the money and did not turn it in to the employees.”
The department has now appealed to anyone who recognizes the person or has information that could help identify them.
Comments on the police department’s post were largely unhelpful, with the most liked simply reading “Finders keepers.”
“I’ll cover the $30, leave the old guy alone,” another wrote, and another responded, “If it was a wallet or something, I would get this, but $30 cash on the ground? WTH?”
Anyone with relevant information has been asked to contact the Albany Police Department at 229-431-2100.

Could you imagine, finding some cash on the ground and keeping it, and getting your face plastered all over the Internet.
It's normal to keep cash found on the ground. Who would trust Walmart employees to even try to find the owner anyway?

How is this even a crime? It’s not stealing?
Would love to hear the judge hearing on this

This might be something like the Bee. The link lists entertainment above the article.

I wonder how much merchandise gets picked off the shelves and walked out the door daily at that WalMart?
I’m sure they have those thieves on camera also, but some old guy finds a few bucks on the ground and he’s public enemy #1.

The police are messing with the balance of the universe here. They're gonna frick around and throw everything off-kilter.

I hope this man can find a way to sue for defamation. There’s a ton wrong with this punkola crap.

I suspect the FBI and GBI will work together on this case. Hopefully they can get him to confess.

No shite. In what fricking world should money a customer drops become the responsibility of a Walmart worker? In all reality, one second of video of a Walmart employee taking that money would get that employee fired.

Hopefully the local authorities can search any nearby flock cameras and interview all who drive by the area.

Last Sunday I found $15 in the self checkout change return at my local Wal-Mart. I gave it to the clerk. This could have been me.

I lost $35 from my pocket about 3 weeks ago. I didn't realize it until I got home. My first thought was "Well, I just made someone's day". I didn't go back and look for it.

They should be able to lift his prints from the shopping cart he was pushing. I hope the cops secured the crime scene.

I found a $100 bill on the floor of the produce section. I took it to customer service, where they probably pocketed it.

How was it on the "ground" if it was inside the store?
Also, if the camera(s) saw him pick up the money, how long had it been sitting there?
