You're not going to put me in a position where I'm defending Alabama. It's terrible.
I'm just pointing out that Nebraska isn't exactly some bastion of fine living, so maybe lower the nose an inch or two.

People bragging about the state they live in are on the same intellectual plane as people who think that "peeling out" is cooooool.....

I blame West Alabama and the black belt
The gulf coast and north AL aren’t bad at all

My friends (and wife) from Jackson, MS at Ole Miss didn't know any Jewish people growing up. They had 0 black friends. They were all either Methodist or Presbyterian. It is crazy how homogeneous it is, even in their largest city.
To be fair and counter this a bit. I grew up in the Lafayette metro area (just a bit smaller than the Jackson metro), and didn't meet a Jewish person until I was out of high school. I went to a public school and 90%+ our of school population was white (I did have one black friend though

ETA: New Orleans is obviously much different than that, though.

But, it appears by most metrics, that Nebraska actually is an example of much better living than Alabama.

I never argued otherwise.

Yeah but you know you Lafayette people all got a little native in you

Those aren't just tans

Also, the cuisine, music, etc. is not homogeneous. Lots of influence from Spanish, French, African, etc. in creole and cajun culture.
ETA:
I am from Baton Rouge and had a much different experience than you. Tons of friends growing up from different religions and races. And I was what people would consider a privileged/country club kid.

Check this out. quote: • 26% of the population is illiterate • The last state to legalize interracial marriage (in the year 2000! 40% voted to keep it illegal!) • #1 in the country for incest births • #1 in political corruption • #50 in education rankings • #48 in poverty • Gets more federal cash than California even though its 1/8th the population • #1 at protecting your rights to marry your first cousin • #45 in infant mortality • #1 in opioid prescriptions • #4 in obesity • #48 in life expectancy Woooooofffff
I approve this message.

Right, but we're all the same non-homogeneous culture if that makes any sense. At one point there was a ton of diversity, but now we've kinda all blended into the same thing.
ETA: I think Baton Rouge and New Orleans are different, but the rest of Lousiana is probably as homogeneous and/or as isolated culturally as Mississippi/Alabama.

quote:Uh yeah, we considered that. It's the people that make the state shitty, and it takes a really shitty person to be against interracial marriage.
Maybe they just don’t support interracial marriage? Have you ever considered that?
quote:But it has everything to do with spite and hatred. Spite because the vote was meaningless, and hatred because why do you give a frick what other people do? Have your beliefs, but don't vote against letting others believe and live as they wish.
It has nothing to do with spite and hatred? You seem to be very intolerant of others beliefs.
How did you get this so backwards?

No. It’s not the only gauge but it still
Is indicative of people being deathly afraid of changes. We have the lottery and casinos all over but god forbid we let unregulated fantasy sports happen.

I supervised a gang of “men” from Alabama. They were AFU as a human being could be. Stupid, lazy and worst of all, unteachable. They should have thrown the whole lot into one of those chicken macerators when they were born.

That isn't about being afraid to change. It isn't religiously motivated or morally motivated, despite what they say.
They just haven't figured out how to profit from it yet.

So we're gonna give Alabama shite because 40% symbolically voted for something that had zero merit, when we (Louisianians) elected a goddamn klansman to the state house in 1989? And then in 1999 gave that fricker 19% of the vote for the US house?
The state of Louisiana has had a decades long love affair with David Duke, that for many people still continues. How many of you dopes sit and wonder "what could've been"?
Some of you fricking people are too stupid to get out of the rain.

The Supreme Court outlawed that law decades ago. Probably why it was never repealed.
