Courts have ruled schools have authority to discipline for off campus behavior if the behavior could impact the school environment.
Some schools may take it too far of course.
But I could see ow the school would have concerns the video could impact the school.

You know, stupid of course, but in light of all these SJW witch hunts and the overreaction by people over what a bunch of numb skull kids said, I cant help but be very concerned for free speech in the future. I’m afraid to say that most of your kids will be dealing with the fallout from all this hysteria. I don’t get super excited when I think of this country’s future. I really don’t.

Even public schools can take disciplinary action against students who do something like this off campus. If they're part of any athletic team, band or school groups, they can kick them out.
