Even though this incident happened off campus. I do sort of understand the school's need to make some sort of action. The article said the school has a population that is 22% black. If I'm on the school board in that district I'd be scared as heck of an all out brawl or something happening between white students and black students at that school. What those kids said was racist as shite, and you would have to be incredibly dense to not understand that.

A video showing Alabama high school students drinking and using racist slurs at an off-campus gathering surfaced on social media over the weekend.

In the video, shared on Facebook and other platforms, a group of white students are going back and forth talking about the Holocaust, about Jewish people, and about African-Americans, using the n-word multiple times in a derogatory manner.

Oh my good lord up in heaven.

So on a side note, pretty fricked up move by his supposed friend to post this on social media. Assuming everyone there were “friends”.

Looks like one of their "buddies" was videoing and laughing like he couldn't wait to get it posted.

I wonder how popular he is now.

That's retarded. They have no say in that at all if a public school

I agree, completely. I went to a public school but somehow they still had the power to control our actions when we weren't at school.

basically looks like someone had a party in their house/apt and they were having a conversation.

and the thread on twitter lists the kids' names and twitter accounts.

This whole thing is full blown retarded. Its a public school. They have zero recourse against students exercising free speech outside of school property.

Could of just given the video to school officials or parents (not that I think the school should have any say, but now they kinda do since these kids have been doxed and may be in danger at school).

Why out these kids and put them in absolute danger? They were saying dumb shite. Now you'll have grown adults on twitter trying to harm these kids.

You're completely wrong about that. There is plenty of federal precedent giving public schools the ability to discipline students for off-campus speech or behavior if it results in or has the potential to disrupt the educational process.

I found the video. Yea that sounds bad. It's almost like they were trying to be as racist as humanly possible.

I don't believe that the school should be able to take action against that. I know it is not the right thing to do at all, but quite frankly for high school QJenk. If i saw a video of some white folks at my school saying that, I would probably be trying to fight them on sight.

are you black?

odds are ALL of those students have at least one black teacher...

it's a crappy situation all around for everyone

I hate it that it's going to be a huge headache & distraction for the school

I am guessing Hoover's school district is governed by the Alabama state govt?

Eta: youre going to have a hard time convincing a judge that a state funded school has jurisdiction over off site speech of students.

Whats next? A school disagreeing with where they go to church or a churchs beliefs over gay marriage? Imagine the wealth of possibilities for lawyers out there.
