Airport to be completed before exit to it started.

Idiotic all around. Kenner should just shut down construction until the state figures out when they and the feds can agree on I10 changes.

The amount of time wasted on studies now, boggles my mind.
It's almost 2018, no study even started, airport is nearly 50% complete. Study could take two years alone.

Loyola drive will be the new exit to the interstate.

This entire airport plan is silly. It wasn't really needed and now it's about to create
Nearly a decade of traffic hell.

Cliffs.

Nola wanted new airport
Building new terminals on other side of airport.
No plans to get people to airport in place from interstate other than existing already congested roads.

I feel like I'm about to be reminded of Austin or worse Baton Rouge traffic.

Airport is a waste of money unless it involves a new hub.

Nah. It is extremely necessary. MSY is an outdated mess.

A modern airport is extremely needed.

The issue is, they know they are building a new airport. They knew four years ago. So how come they don't even have plans yet?
Bainbridge and Aberdeen being the entrances is odd.
The first thing greeting passengers arriving in NOLA will be Mr. Binky's porno shop and the blight of Susan Park.

There are business on loyola that have no idea of they will be forced to close or not.
Meanwhile the airport is already getting windows and electrical installed.

Everyone knew this was going to happen 5+ years ago when they announced the new airport project, but no one wanted to say anything publicly. This, not designing the aiport to handle future passenger rail, and not designing internal circulation to get people from the current parking garages and rental car center to the new termunal were insane frick ups.

Actually they have a plan for the rental cars.
There is a tunnel that was supposed to connect veterans to airline under the runways.
They may open it up and run shuttles through it.

And yes, they should have had light rail from the airport to the city.

I have a little inside info about the project, the tunnel might happen but that is at least several years out and will not be functional before the new terminal opens.

You wanna know what the rush to build the new terminal is for? So there will be a plaque that says "Mitch Landrieu - Mayor" on it.

Would a shiny, new airport be better than the existing terminal? Sure it would, but at what cost? Like most things NOLA, the city's limited resources are being allocated poorly.

If you're going to built a new airport, why remodel the existing one? (Ravens-49ers Super Bowl. What year was that?) Why build a whole new rental car facility on the Airline side? Wouldn't it have made more sense to build it on the Veterans side and spent 2 or 3 years shuttling to it, rather than 40 or 50 shuttling back to to the Airline side from the new terminal? How many more gates will there be in the new terminal? We had a whole concourse (A) closed and unused for years that could have been renovated or demolished and rebuilt at the existing terminal. Don't tell me this was about capacity.

This is going to be an expensive boondoggle, just like most things involving the New Orleans govt. The Aviation Board's relative success isn't the result of management's business acumen and/or operating efficiency. They just have the ability to extort the airlines that want to service a tourist destination.

I mean, as soon as they started site clearing for this terminal, I thought to myself, surely they are going to soon start the roadway infrastructure that's going to be necessary to actually get people there. I kept wondering and wondering, when that was going to start, knowing there was no way those little streets and existing interstate exit configurations would be able to handle it.

It should be unbelievable but, alas, it would be shocking to know that they would have competently planned this ENTIRE project.

Here is a serious question, how will passengers get from the old terminal to the new terminal ? As far as I know there is no way (train etc) that will connect the two.

The won't have to. All passenger activity will be out of the new terminal. The existing terminal will be used for cargo and general aviation, I think.
