And I love watching A-10's fly. I would gladly "get alarmed" by them. It would make my day.

Absolutely. They have fighter jets circle downtown NOLA from time to time and I always stop what I'm doing to head to the window when I hear them coming. I love that shite.

I just watched it a couple years ago. Actually I think with Little Bit. She thought it was crazy I had never seen it

Just want to give a round of applause to all the well placed top gun references, pics, and gigs in this thread.

One of the coolest thing I have ever seen was two A10s flying from North to south over the Causeway. I was heading from the south going north so I was driving towards them.

It was so cool and intimidating the were on each side of the bridge I knew they could take out everything if they wanted to

Had to have been the mid 1980's, I had just been into the woods maybe 5 minutes, squirrel hunting behind the grandparents house in NWLA and heard a jet engine, and heard it, and heard it (thick old pine woods).

Suddenly, just over the tree tops a warthog appeared moving so slowly it looked like it could fall at any time. It was so low I could see the pilot inside the cockpit such that if needed I could pick him out of a lineup. And that engine got really loud then as it passed overhead over a clearing.

Awesome sight. He had to have been out of Barksdale, might have been headed toward a range at Ft. Polk for some tank killing practice?

Was anyone at the Alabama LSU game in 05? That was the craziest fly-over I've ever witnessed. I basically made eye contact with the KC130 pilot.

Edit: Thanks, Youtube

think the A10 is referred as the Devils Cross in the Tom Clancy book Red Storm Rising.

not sure if it's the start of the name or just the mentioning of what you said.

there's really nothing alarming about an A10 flying.

it's engines produce a unique whine. It's fairly quiet. It's not supersonic so nothing gets rattled.

The only time it's alarming is if it's BRRRRRTing, firing a missile at you, or dropping steel on ya head.

More than likely out of old England AFB in Alex... parents lived in the Kisatchie NF to the north of it and A-10's used the area as a training ground. We'd see them nearly everyday a tree-top levels and would wing-wag us all the time

that's a shame.

they WERE low, but damn.

We had a single B1 fly over Kyle and it was at a good standard flyover altitude just cruising. As soon as it had cleared 2/3 of the stadium, it went nose up at a high angle, and lit the afterburners.

I've not heard a louder flyover. It shook you to the core. I wonder if that pilot got in trouble as I've never experienced that or heard about something like it before.

ETA: that bomber that was lollygagging down to first suddenly found it's legs and it was g.o.n.e. before you could think about anything.

Thanks for the link, that's pretty low. They're gonna get in trouble. I've seen guys kicked to the curb for much less.

I'm pretty sure there is a wing or two at ft Polk. I see them flying around here all the time. Almost daily.

We were on the Sabine a few weeks ago and 3 of them were one behind the other just above the tree tops following the river. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I'm also fairly sure one of them was waving at us.

There's some loud stuff out there. I was in Tampa as a wee lil laddie during the late 60's. Could see NASA launches from Canaveral in the distance. Lot's of loud aircraft around there during that time.

The 70's had the Concorde, noise is what shut it down in the USA. Saw and heard it in both New Orleans and Memphis.

Millington NAS outside Memphis used to be (may still, been away from there since '82) world's largest inland naval base and was for flight training for Navy. They had some crazy loud aircraft late 70's early 80's.

SR-71 flew out of Barksdale too. I remember vividly the sonic boom that a crew got sanctioned for over North Central LA that blew out some windows and shook foundations. Nearly blew out huge plate glass windows on LaTech campus as I was walking through the quad.

Like everything else in the USA nowadays there's regs and laws and rules and stuff about "acceptable" noise restrictions. You young whippersnappers, git off'n mah ...oh wait
