It was and has always made simple life expectancy an iffy metric. The life expectancy of people who reach adult age is a better comparison point but not that easy to find.
Add to that childhood diseases that we vaccinate for and you have a lot of things that skew the numbers then vs now.

Don’t sleep on us. I have a lot of friends that know exactly what is going on. 20 something year olds that know more than y’all do. We have a lot of figs in our generation but I think things will get better
