The ADT salesmen are strolling around the neighborhood. Are these the traveling summer job guys that people warn against?

Does anyone have an ADT home security system? Would you recommend it? Seems like a good deal. They are offering the alarm system, 2 cameras and the mobile monitoring app where you can check the cameras and set the alarm remotely. All this for $60/mth?

What does the OT say?

Apparently there is no up front cost. Special promotional deal, if I put a sign in the yard they set it all up for free... Blah, blah, blah....

They'll destroy you if you ever try and get out of the contract. I sold a business we used them with and the new owners had someone else they wanted to go with. I called ADT (whom we were with like 5 years) and they told me they'd send me a bill for like $800. Needless to say I scrambled to talk the new owners into staying and lucked out.

My mother in law used them for home alarm and she sold a house and was moving to an apartment. They pulled the same shite... I think they got her for like 200-300 bucks.

I'd go with someone else. They're pretty shady.

You can get it for cheaper.

Also, remember that a system won't stop someone who really wants to get in your home. It's a deterrent not a response system.

We have the sign too and the system but no monitoring. Know what the "monitoring does"? It means they give you a call 10 minutes after an alarm and ask if the police need to be called. Pretty worthless.

The system was fine and that was the same cost, but we recently went with Comcast bundle with security instead of phone, so we tried to cancel ADT 10 months early and they wanted $300. After some negotiations, I got them to give me 3 free months and lower the MO that bill to $44. We will cancel after the 3 months, so we'll sitll have to pay, but since it's based on the remainder of the term and monthly charges, we're hoping for a lot less.

I don't necessarily think they are the best or cheapest, but it's a solid name in the business. Just don't plan to leave early or move.

I've had ADT for about 20 years. No problems. They've come out and updated stuff too, free. Gotta get the wireless nowadays though and not the wired call to the cops, otherwise thieves have learned to just unplug the phone line from the outside phone jack.

Doesn't take long to remember to disarm before opening windows or backdoors either. Those are usually set for instant alert as opposed to front door allowing 30 seconds or so to get to control panel. The audible alarm can literally blow an eardrum to anyone standing near the speaker(s).

Since getting the alarm my storage building has been broken into 3 times, robbed 2x (birdshot to the 3rd attempt sent him scurrying through the woods screaming not to kill him, obviously not the same guy I put a 30/30 round through my shed at eye level as he woulda known I shoot first and don't bother to ask any questions). They have not touched the house since the alarm was installed.

The alarm panel has a battery in inside for backup when power fails, replaced it once since around 1995.

Call Acadian Total Security, local company with a Baton Rouge monitoring station. I don't know where ADT has their station but I know they aren't a local business

Had Atlas Security out of Covington install my system today: 2 cameras, remote app for both camera and alarm, door sensors, touch screen pad with automation capabilities. In and out in a couple hours.

They let me know up front that if I choose to cancel my contract there is a $250 flat fee. Not bad. At least they are up front about it. I've heard bad things about ADT's cancellation policy.

That is absolutely a lie. Maybe you should try getting your system monitored before you spout off completely untrue bullshite. They call me within seconds of my alarm going off. It has happened multiple times over the past three years because my roommate is an idiot.

He'll set it off, and they will call me before he does....and he's inside the house.

I'll call it an exaggeration. Seriously, it was minutes after they would get a motion alarm. Our dogs would set it off even though they weren't supposed to be able to. We got called often. But my point still stands. They'll ask if the police need to be called. Won't STOP people from taking your shite. Still just a deterrent.
