The motion detector works perfectly fine at my house, my parent's house, and my grandma's house.

Why would I want the cops to immediately come to my house if I know what's going on? I prefer they ask so I can just tell them no sometimes.

Were you somehow under the impression that your alarm was supposed to completely stop someone from getting into your house? That just seems stupid on your part

I never said I did. And of course that would be stupid. That's the point I'm making though. It's not a response system. It's a deterrent system. I had it because we got it for $15/month because we had just moved in and the system was already installed. Once they tried to up the price, we cancelled. Still have the sign in the yard and the system that makes noise when the door or windows are opened. Motion detector is still there but doesn't set anything off. Does exactly what it needs to do.

If the signs, locks, and noise don't stop an intruder, a phone call and police that show up ma y minutes later surely won't stop it. That's all I'm saying.

these monitoring companies are sneaky. they rope you into a long-term commitment with the monitoring without you even knowing it. be sure to read all 5 pages of fine print in the contract that they show you on their hand held computer.

ADT is fine if you stay with them long term and play by the rules.

There may be better local outfits but nationally ADT is fine.

I've had them in several other states and presently use them. They're fine.

Folks who sign a contract that stipulates early exit penalties shouldn't complain when they voluntarily exit early and are charged those penalties.

that sounds too high to me...I would expect more on the order of $30 - $40 per month for monitoring. I also don't see a whole lot of benefit to the cameras for theft prevention...that is just for your peace of mind when you want to look at your house.

Okay, so live in a cloud if you don't want someone to be able to break into your house. JPSO can be at my house within 2 to 3 minutes of getting the call, if not sooner. That call is placed while I'm on the phone with ADT....seconds after my alarm goes off.

You can't expect the police to be there the moment they get called. An alert from ADT is low on most PD's list. It just is. This is coming from someone who knows. And not all places have local PD either.

I'm not telling you what I want. I'm just passing along what people should expect and what a security system is. If you have video, that's different, though. I'm in a starter home now. My next, and hopefully last house, will have it's own video and DVR server. I don't plan to stop a person who is completely set on taking something. But I sure as hell will have them on camera along with their vehicle and hopefully plates.

Yeah but that was in LA, living in that valley makes normal folks into weirdos and weirdos into mass murderers.

I have an ADT sign in my yard but no system. Never had any problems. No monthly fees. Would recommend
We have the sign too and the system but no monitoring. Know what the "monitoring does"? It means they give you a call 10 minutes after an alarm and ask if the police need to be called. Pretty worthless.
buy your own system and get a contract to monitor for 25 a month.

They call us within 30 seconds when we set it off, and they call when you are out of town of something happens. That is enough to keep em from U bolting my safe.
Oh, fire alarms are wired too, so if they go off fire is on the way.

There is no reason to not buy a system and not let them screw you by paying 300-400 too much a year because you don't want the upfront cost

We have ADT with 1 camera and 1 portable iPad like keypad. One other keypad. 4 bedroom house with monitors on all windows and doors except the large solid glass Windows that are across my back patio. Plus monitors on garage attic door and storage area. 2 motion detectors and a couple smoke CO2 combos. We paid 800 dollars for the equipment I just described. House was prewired only during construction. Just wires though, no contacts. We use ADT app and its 35 per month.

It won't stop them completely but it will weed out all the pussies and they will run. The bold ones that do still break in know they have minimal time to take your shite which means less shite taken. You get it?
