ADDIS — On Feb. 28, Addis Police officers performed a welfare check on a mother of seven children at an address on Myrle Street. After officers arrived to find the woman in an allegedly “erratic” state with the home in “unfit living conditions,” they arrested the woman and a week later, they arrested the father of the children for child cruelty.
According to arresting documents, the seven children are under the age of 13. The mother, Samantha Gordon, met officers outside of the home on Feb. 28th, acting in what was described as “an erratic manner” and allegedly telling officers that the “Illuminati” were trying to attack her.
Gordon admitted to officers that she had used opioids within the past 24 hours, after which officers held Gordon’s newborn baby. Officers tried to get the woman into an ambulance, but according to the arrest documents, she became “irate and combative,” attempting to take the infant back.

DCFS was called out to the home, but refused to take the children despite the deplorable conditions or the parents’ history of drug abuse. A DCFS worker later arrived at the home to perform a walk-through.
During the walk-through of the home, officers saw a girl sleeping on a bunk bed in just a diaper with flies on her, according to documents. The home was also described as having a strong smell of feces.
In addition, officers said the kitchen counters were full of trash and food that was covered in “roaches, maggots and flies.”
A tub in the bathroom was filled with water and had bugs in it. Meanwhile, the bathroom counter was also filled with trash and the toilet was filled with feces.
First responders spent several hours with the children until the father, Daniel Hopkins came home from Livingston Parish.

According to arrest documents, the home was in the same condition as before. Plus, the room where the children slept had a container of a “white, crystal-like substance” that was believed to be meth, glass smoking pipes, and a torch lighter on the desk where the kids do home schooling.
There were six children present when officers came this time. The oldest is a student at Brusly Middle School and was in class.
DCFS came again, and took full custody of the six children present after determining the home was unfit for living. They then picked up the oldest child at school.
DCFS said that nothing in the home was salvageable, so the children would need all new personal items and necessities.

Those poor poor sweet children. I don’t get how people can live like that.

Sad that no one could step in for these children. It doesn't sound like this is a sudden thing.

The part about the young one sleeping in a diaper covered in flies is pretty heartbreaking

Good fricking job. What are you there for if not to remove children from a situation like this?
Is there a reason they chose not to take the children after finding those conditions and drugs at the house?

He looks like Charles Manson in that last pic.
People are sick.
Welfare needs to have a 1 kid limit.
