Never let people borrow shite. You should have originally fixed their mower if you were feeling charitable or STFU from the beginning.

You messed up by driving the lawnmower over there to begin with. Made it too convenient for them which is why they came back to you wanting to borrow it again instead of getting their own fixed, which apparently wasn't as difficult as they made it out to be. Should have told them the first time they could borrow it as long as they could pick it up and then bring it back to you by the following day.

They waited 4 days to return a mower after he was kind enough to bring it to them to begin with. That’s bull shite.

I get it... But the search would have been a more productive use of their time than berating a friend for not allowing them to trespass on his kindness.

This x100. I don't deal with people who can't grow up. I understand life has challenges and you were nice to help them through what may have been an immediate need. However, grownup people get a friggin lawn mower. If you can't get it fixed, then buy a new one. If you can't do that, then call one of the million 'lawn services' out there. There are only a million baws out there with zero turns trying to make an extra buck.
No way I'm lending out my mower to anyone. It's too expensive to just let someone who didn't care for their mower to use. I would however tell them that I'll mow it for $40 or whatever. If they consider you an infidel for that, then just move on and consider them trashy users.

How did they return it the first time? Was it full of gas and cleaned up or empty and covered in grass? Anytime I borrow something from someone I always make sure to bring it back looking Better than I got it. And if it’s got an engine I make sure to fill it. I expect the same in return or it will be the last time you borrow anything for me.

You are pulling the wrong lesson from this experience. The real lesson you should have learned is to stay off Facebook.
